Oats will soon be ready for harvest* ing. Farmers about all through harvest ing wheat. Five county boarders: two out on bond. Quite a nice refreshing shower rain this morning; and a real good season. Doc Smith killed a rattlesnake three feet long with nine rattles, while cul ling wheat. We regret to learn that Mrs John Cuzzort is very low; we hope she will be up agaiu soon. VV. G. Morrisson passed through our streets Friday with a brand new full rig buggy. Corn growing finely since the rains and weeds too. All makes it a very busy time for farmers. Answer to query:—John P Jaeo vvay attended United States Court at Atlanta, last week. We had almost a stoim Sunday, with a little tain afterwards, but not of any consequence. Some iion ore is being raised at this p’aeu and put on reaiket; but nothing compared to what lias heretofore. Wo were fmtnnate enough to find “Students” commutin' ation, which will he seen in another column. We need a patent church house in Tienton; something that can !*• con tracted to suit th t c Higrega ion. Mrs 1 P Jacowav is still suffering with ihetinmtisni, She has not Iweti able to got out of bed tor several week*. DcKa’h Co.. All., has a fine crop of candidates for county offices. Rising Fawn is anticipit s ig a largo attendance at the District Conference of tlie M K Church South, to be held at that place the latter part of this week. WANTED Active and reliable agents, to sell the Singer Sewing Machine. Write to The Singer Manufacturing Co , Chattanooga Tctm. The health of the commit nit \ is tol erahle good. However vv« hear of home hmve! cunphtinta. \\ otthi it not be well to. guard against the use ol vegatahles-just iio - v? We spent a very pleasant evening at Mrs- N. M r.rock’a Friday; a gath ering of the young folks of town in honor ol Miss Maliie ami Jas. K lirock’s birthday. Rev. J W Carnes preached a couple of excellent sermons here Saturday night and Sunday, Rev, ft M Ram soy breached Sunday night, at which lime the meeting closed. The picnic ar Pope’s spring we learn was quite a success in many res pects; hut not so much towards the oiigiunl design. It was laigely atten ded and turneb into a dance before dts jiersion, ot at least a portion of rt. Wallace Haralson returned from Tuscaloosa, Ala..last week a graduate fiom the Law Department of the State University at that phtce. Wo spent our last »nd most pleasant schoe! days with Wallace and we wish him much success at our devoted profssion. The meeting held in the Cumberland Presbyterian church house at this place closed Wdnesdiv night. Some very earnest and impressive appeals were delivered; though no apparent results as to a levival, yet we can never regard that those mighty truths were sown in vain. It is saitl that a won! to tlm wise is sufficient. Now I wish to say once and no more to the buys of litis place that out office is a place business, ami we th> not wish to bo troubled any more by any mm’s coining here just for the purpose of carrying on their ti port aad amusement. l>irn:— June 2th li, Myrtle, infant daUglitei of Mi and Mis. I V V i!!i>, aged nine months and th.iee davs. I j had been ill tin some time. Ihe In I neral services were conducted bv le v JVV Carnes. To tlie sorrowing pa rents we would speak words of com fort. While it is tine that it has gone never to return; yet you can say with David, “It cannot come to me but J can go to it.” Then like David, cease to mourn, ami think of tint which was the bud on earth, as the never fading flower in heaven. No one has been committed to jail or bound over for appearance at next Superior Court this last week, for the first time in six weeks. The Masonic dinner given yesterday was a success in evo.iy respect. It was largely attended, and every thing moved off smoothly, with the excep tion, that some of the impudent boys of the town and vicinity tried to enter tain the young wonderfully hard. S.uue .»f the yotig folks participated in a dance in the evening at tint academy. Fine crop of dog-fennel in town A certain party was in town the other day ane wanted to know for what spe ei il purpoM! we raised it. We told him ihat we canned i, and shipped it north for theyankees: he looked very wise, and guess (hats where lie came from. A patty, by tho name of Fie Mer, was in our countv some lime agoboy icg up c-itile. He virtually engaged alioiit all that were tor sale in the county, and then mysteriously disap peared. Thine are several co j-ctuics as to fhe cause of his disappearance, but the most plausible one, seems to 'op, t hat he was hunting \vi:d cat stills. We were not in attendance at the Sunday sliool mass-meeting at .the M. K. chinch house last Sunday evening, but learn that quite a number were out considering the prospects for a rain and storm at the time. Rev. S. M. Ram sey delivered a very impressing ami forcible address on the Sunday school cause. One ot Trenton’s young “dudes” ac companied a cirtuin young lady home fmm church the other night, hut hi cloqiiuat tongue failed to perform its function on this occasion till the young lady struck a mud puddle, when tho young man uttered the one wnr* “mud” and sank into the deepest si lence unt.ll he mustered up the cour age to say “go.M bye” at the gate. At present politics in Dade are at a low ebb. We have heard persons spoken of as candidates for every office with the exception of Assessor. II the oiHce has to go begging, I guess we could got some one from DeKalb after their election to assume the du ties of that office. Wo know that there will he no use trying till after that time, for all of them are going to he elected, that is if you ask each one seperately about it. We take the liberty ot paplishing a remark wo heard L S Colvar make last Saturday, while at Rising Fawn, correct the public opinion that is ex taut in regard to the convict labor at the furnace. The remark was to the effect, that, the object of working con vict labor was not to exclude any Ireo labor, but from necssily the free labor was nor sufficient tj run the works: and further, that they would still use all Dee labor they coni l oh . tain. One trouble, and probably th e only one, seems to bo, to obtain hands that will work regular. Wo attended the closing exercises of Prof. .1 M Miller,s school at M >r ganville last Friday night. We were not successful in obtaining a seat, we did get about one foot square iu which tu stand, that is, if we could withstand the pressure of the’nmuborlcss audience which had gathered to witness the ex hibition, for all know his pcculiai tact in making a grand success of bis every undertaking in this line, and none tail ed to take advantage of this opportu nity; and those who had babies brought them The compositions wej heaid read were well gotten up, and highly appieciated by the audience. As to the declamations, there were two which would have done credit to one much mote experienced than a school boy, in the art of elocution. Ihe dia logue. “Paddy Mile’s boy” brought down the house several times, snd was certainly a success.
