Glenn was in our town one day last week, ami favored our of fice with bis presence. Trenton is on a boom—ftotndthing in the shape of a telephone put up by Messrs llenry Goodwill and John Case. Yesterday morning nearly "every body and Ida dog” was in town; iu the evening it was veiy different—bum* ness dull and quiet. Owing to the continued rains many of our tarmera will not be able to plow out theit coin at the time needed. The frog pond in our town still ex ists. Something that will impress vis itors and our neighbors very lavora bly.(?) 'lhe communication from Smith, last week came in too late for publica tion, and the news iu it would not probably suit for this issue. The price of corn remains unchang ed quoted 70c. Wheat is quoted at from 90 to 96 cents; a very small price, for the amount raised in thin country per acre. We send you a supplement contain ing the entire proceedings of the Dem ocratic Convention; and also, other matter, to which we call your special atteutioti. One or two of DeKalb County Ala., candidate* for county office lift* ——will not nay, luit liave withdrawn. Wonder if a Miialhtnajotity of them cannot he no convinced sometime soon. We have not received a single coin inunic.ttion this week any portion of the county. It lias been a long while since we received one from Cole City; can not some one from that place fa vor us tvitli one? Could not our town Commissioners las convinced of the importance of ■(tending some of the funds of the cor porate treasure u|*m our streets and side walks, which need repairing very badly. Married: Last Friday morning by Squire .lobe W i* Wood to Miss Virginia Wallace, Doth of IfeKalb County, Ala. Wo have not recotded a single marriage since we have had anything to do with editing the paper, whew the parties were of otir own comity and State; hut Alabama w ill come forward and break the monotony. This makes about the fourth iu the last two mouths. It fieerns that f-ovt'ial of onr citizen* are having considerable trouble of lato about “jirivale ways.” Another wa* belore the Court of Ordinary last Monday (the day to which it adjourn ed). The parties were Messrs. Jas. T. Woolbright vs. John A. Cureton. The "r »t 1« # * was granted—in favor of Woolbright. It makes the third case since the last term ot the Superior Court. Tho narrow gauge railroad at Cole City is now about completed to the top of the mountain It is probable aud is in project of being run to Uising Fawn. If carriedTnto execu tion, which we believe it will be at some future time at least, it will pass through this valley so as to accommo date the mineral interest, in which our county is inexhaustible. We would be glad to see such an enterprise pas sed rapidly through, as t* the advan tage it would l»e to our people, and re ►oiiices it would develop, we will not attempt to estimate. L. S, L’olyar, delegate from thi District to National Democratic Con vention at Chicago, returned last Mon day. He expresses himself well pleas ed with the nomination and believes hey olid doubt that it will bt* success ful. Maimed: Before we get out this isme we learn of another marriage. It took place at the restdriic of Mr. llenry Smith, at Sulphur Springs, last Sunday, The parties were Mr. William Crow to Miss Sallie I horn hill. Of course they were a run away couple from Alabama, but from Jack son county this time. The people of Morgauville are get ting up an exhibition and public eh tertaiiiuient for the purpose of raising a fund to recover and repair the sclnsd and church house at that place. We wish them success, as the house is needing the work very pably, and must add considerably not only to ap[iearauce but to real benefit . Some of onr citizens have been speaking of running 11. I*. Majors for county treasurer, if lie will accept. Mr. Maj ors, as most every one knows, lias not been able to be tip for ovei three years; having been confined with rheumatism. It elected there will be no question as to the office’s being well attended to; and we think lie mer its and deserves it at the hand ot the people under many considerations; aud that he could lie unanimously elected. One of Hit* Jail Birds Kink «*» his Eflcapr an«l in Recap tured. Onr town waa thrawn Into a fevoi of excitement yesterday oven; ng about aix o’clock, by the breaking ot Felix llrown from jail who had been commit ted about a mouth ago for larceny at Kiting Fawn, lie had Veo out of his cell ahikust the entire evening, and had ascended the stairway that leads to the upjier cella, and attempted to make hia escape through the walls of the jail,. He had taken out several of the brick, and had effected a small hole through the vail, but finding that he could not make his escape with sufficient ease and in time not to be discovered, he descended and opened the door that leads into the private room jf the Jailor. Mrs. Cuiry the Jailor's wife was in tke kitchen at the time, ami the prisoner not being able to make his escape otherwise w ithout passing out at the door facing the town, he rushed out through the kitchen. Quicker than it takes to tclj it Mrs. Curry raised the alarm, nnd several persons being in town at the time, all followed m pursuit. Ho had gone only about a quarter, aud finding himself cut off ho lav down in a thick, ei; several of tlie boya had given him up as gone and came back leaving Messrs. John McMahan and Jus. A. Poor fellow ! ‘spect he wanted a mess • I lurries, and it was so cruel not to let him have tiroetoget them. He wan confined in the Maine cell that George Smith wan and from which he made liia esca(>e. It was all the result of the deficiency of the lock.
