just about the road crosMAg leading to

would be difficult to estimate which
covered the most g- ound, Jim or his
sugar, coffee Am. We all know about
how much ground Jim can prevent tho
sun from shining on. Well be had
t ken in more than his natural capaci
ty ortho “law” allows him. Whan a
fellow jumps from a train in motion
and falls, yon can nevVr convince bfhi

ed on his nose instead of his feet. Jim
may not admit this, hut he certainly

Scientists say tire earth in its prime
val state was a conglomerated mass of
burning matter which has been cooling
off fnun time immemorial. It having
not near cooled through yet; the center
consists of a htigh mass of smoldering
embers or coals, the beat of which es
capsng causes volcanoes, earthquakes
&e This account, however, does not
quiet tally with tho Bible', which says
God made the whole thing in six clays

A Bill to amend the Constitution in regard
to election of Governor—making his term of
office four years and disqualifying him for
re-election.
Tho oposition to the bill to force a
more speedy payment of stock claims
against railroad companies is so gieat
that will not probably pass. We are
disposed to regard it as the most im
portant bill before too Icgirlattue. It
is evident that there could be a remedy
of more utility and benefit to both
parties. There aro too many such
cases carried into our oourts, ther is no
use of questioning it, and ti ere ought
to be a bettei remedy. Let the peo
ple have a better and quicker assur
ance for the payment of their stock
killed 'on railroad, or let the legisla
ture refuse them any remedy at all.
There ought and must he something
moro specific about this matter. Our
courts are always troubled with such
claims bewever small the amount; and
it is not owing to the prejudice and
demanhs beyond justice of and by tho
people as is often assorted. *
