law. Every man that votes for- tax
or license is in the rectifying or distil
ling business and every saloon con
tros ten or more votes. No wonder
that we have the cry of hard times.
But it comes more from the consump
tion of liquors than from over produc
tion or lack of 'abor. He also gave
as a result of careful investigation,
seventy-six thousand deaths in a year
from the intemperance use ot intoxi
cating liquors, being five per cent,
more than from alt oilier causes. .In

March, and their reports show that
there were 23 schools taught in the

erage attendance of 808 pupils. This
is a much larger attendance than has
