Davis, has expressed himself favoring a court of arbitration between labor and capital, and suggests that £< should bo on the plan of co-partner ship upon whiuh mutual interest and profits should be considered. “Bk thou faithful over a few things an l I will make thee ruler over many thing*,” Wonder if Sam Jone’s faithfulness “over a few things” was what put his “sayings” into every body’s mouth ? Or is it because he bas has been favored by such a heavy tide of popular opinion that none dare to contradict him ? Modesty in a woman is something that should be admired and something that all women should be possessed ol « requisite amount. But does not that woman whoso modesty is shocked at sight ot a base bail uniform possess an over amount of the commodity in question ? If it is a proper “caper” for ladies to become shocked at the sight af knee pants, we imagine our ancestral tua’s had time for little than blushing. Never in the history of the coun try has there been anything Kko the present labor organizations. Rules are made by them which fix the hours of labor and the compensation, and employers are expected to accept. As could not bo otherwise expected, it lias produced a very unhealthy state of affairs—susdended the investment of capital and the operation of indus ries of various kinds. Public opin ion is is supiemo in this country, and whenever those organizations make unreasonable demands they will promptly loso their power. But the possibilities of such au organization is simply incalculable. > » . We will bet our last summer’s straw hat against a ginger cake that Gen. Gordon is concerned about it, but if trust and confidence is merited, A. O. Ftf® m A a. Ed Times: —The first official gun of the State campaign was fired to-day by Mr. J. 11. Polhill, last Thursday in calling tba Sta.tc Executive Com mittee to meet at the Kimball on the 10th of May. Now fat ire all hope that when these wise and patriotc committeemen meet they will not call the convention earlier than August— and the later the Better. It is ofi course settled that any honest man! who receives an honest nomination by' the convention will be governor, even though Dr. Felton should mount the platform of railroad commission—a chaingang—prohibition p rank s—a long campaign will do no good. The candidates will have their work to do beforehand. In fact the work looks as though it was now complete pro vided! Gordon does not conclude to give it a finishing touch. If he should Gordon will he governor. If not. Bacon. These are my opinions for what they are worth. ‘Congressional matters are not very interestsng to the general public yet. Hon. P. L. Mynott will evidently aga : tib- in the rape from the sth District The confederate soldiers in this vi cinity have organized, and will form a precession to welcome Jeff. Davis on his visit here the Ist of May. All visiting soldiers wffl be invited to join the procession and many an old veteran will that day honor the fallen hero under the shadow of the Ameri can flag. The arrangements for the unveiling of the monument® are completed. Gen. Evans will offer the opening prayer, and Henry W Grady will in troduce the orator of the day. A sale cf real estate in Atlanta this month furnished some solid arguments on the question of prohibition or its effects, or tho value ot property, fhe lots lay two and a half miles from the center of the city, and Rold at the rate of over $4,000 per acre—a ju ice far above the tax assessment. This calls up the fact that while Atlanta was the first she is no longer the largest city in tho world, a prohibitory law by popular vote, as Providence, Rhode Island, now enjoys that distinc tion. The railroad commission is in sess. ion &t present, listening to the argu ments in cases brought by Messrs. Dunn & lloos against railroad dis crimination. No concnlskm will like ly bo reached this week. The capitol commissioners last Thursday investigated and passed upon over $35,000 in a A omit for work on tho new capitol. Nothing can be deter mined as to who will teceive the nom ination. Judge Fain is very strong in our county. No man h?s ever yet entered the field and filled the office that stands higher in the estimation and Confidence of our people than Judoou Clements. THE DM MUTUAL INSTITUTE.
