Henry Jucoway passed through town
yesterday with a drove beef cattle for
Chattanooga.
Stewart countv voted on Prohibition
yesterday, Hancock county to-day, and
Pulton county(Atlanta) to-morrow.
John H. Crabtree left Wednesday
for South Pittsburge, Tenn., to work in
the office of a iron aud coal company at
that place.
Prof Wood was very ill Wednesday
and dismissed school for yesterday.
This morning he was able to resume
his duties in the school room.
Rev. Mr. Wilson preached at the C.
P. church Sunday evening. Owing to
the train’s being late he did not arrive
ia time to till the morning appointment
The latter part of next week the
Times’ office will occupy new quarters.
We will occupy by right of partial own
ership the lower story of the new build
ingput up by Lumpkin & Brock and
now nearly completed.
Not quite half what the’present re
pairs on the C, P. church cost has been
received, and no one holds a claim
against the repairs for work ©r materi
al. So far, the cost is about forty-five
dollars. A bout one hundred dollars has
been subscribed.
We were taken by surprise yesterday
evening when W. H. Killian stepped
off the train with his bride, nee Miss
Lucia Martin. We were in total ig
norance of the affair, and can only ex*
teud them our best wishes for a most
happy life.
Abont all the speakers on the Prohi
bition question in Atlanta are so enthu
siastic, well inform ed, forcibly argu
mentive, that they can mount auvstnmp
in Dade county and prove to any audi
ence in ten minutes that it is topo
graphically a prairie.
The case of the State vs. Tom Wool
folk was called for trial in Macon last
mondny. On motion of counsel for the
defense the case was deferred and set
for trial the hrst monday proximus. A
great deal of interest and no little ex
citement is manifested in the case.
We extend our thanks to the sub
scribers of the Times at Rising Fawn for
meeting sudscription accounts while we
were at that place last Saturday. In
collecting subscrition, it was the best
day’s work we ever did. But, of course,
this does not include all at that place.
Ja«. R. Brock went to Jasper, Tenn. ,
this week as a witness in the case of
the State vs. I. It. Faison, charged with
assaulting and attempting to kill Dr.
Davis at Shell mound a year or more ago
Since putting the above in type. Dr,
liroek lias returned, and says that the
defendant did not appear for trial and
forfoited a thousaud dollas bond,
Eph Ledford, at Morrison, swore out
a peace warrant against his son, John
Ijcdford, last Tuesday. He was arrested
and lodged in jail for trial next day. The
prosecution failing to appear, the war
rant was dismissed and the defendant
released. The trouble was general vio
lent conduct on the part of the defend
ant towards his father.
The great success of many agents
employed by B. F. Johnson & Co., of
Richmond, is a pretty good evidence
of the excellence and popularity of the
books they offer to Sell through their
agents. This is a reliable house and
any contract made with them you can
depend on will be faithfully carried ouf
When an- issue presents itself to the
public, it seldom pays to be neutral.
This is illustrated in the case of Prohi
bition and the Constitution in Atlanta.
The stock holders and editorial force of
the Constitution are divided on the ques
tion, and the paper is made the target
for sarcasm and ridicule by nearly
every paper in the State,
Clias. T. Smith and his bride were
the guest of Mr. J. P. Jacowav’s Mon
day eve. Others who partook of Mr.
and Mrs Jacoway’s hospitality and most
excellent supper at the time, wore your
edilor, Jas. R, Brock, and Misses Lula
Austelle and Cammie Plumlee. Of
course we enjoyed the occasion very
much, and more especially the meeting
of our worthy and long tried friend and
his bride. __

iMPRESSIONS

Gathered from Observations and
by Reflection.
[BY A GIIIL IN TOWN.]
It is noticeable that our school 19 in
creasing in popularity aud confidence.
Assurance is sweet to the soul, but we
should not cease to work because we do
not at any time h&ye it.
--‘O—
The world is about as apt to overesti
mate your worth and character as it is
to underestimate them. And tf it does
not pay you for all you have given it, it
is your own fault.
—o—
desire can ever be gained without
action. Good natures alone are not the
reforming elements of the world. A
man whose house is one’s Are will not
get it put out by standing and praying
for it.
—o—
It is not for the want of good preach
ing and excellent sermons that the peo
ple of this town and community do not
attend church. It is laziness and in
difference towards religious work and
influence.
I have beconje aoou tomed to it and
it Ls seldom I note its sounds, but for a
number of weeks it seemed necessary
that the almost continuous ringing of
that school bell ought to be suppressed
as a public annoyance.
Well! and it is announced that our
peaceful little town is to be honored
with a dancing hall. It is nothing in
consistent with our civil rights, but be
careful that its influence is npt corrupt
ing and poisonous to the redeeming
agencies of our fallen nature.
Church Snppcr.
Trenton was reprepsented at the sup
per at Bising Fawn Tuesday night by
Miss Allie Brock and your editor. It
was given by the ladies of that place to
raise funds to aid in purchasing a par
sonage. aud as regards the abundance
and quality of the supper nothing in
the least was wanting, and we were
admirably struck with the manner and
tact displayed in the arrangement. This
may be partly chargeable to the im
mensity with which we enjoyed occa
sion aud the clearing away of conscien
tious scruples against such means for
prising money for any purpose pertain
ing to Church affairs. If everyone was as
well pleased with the affair as we were,
all will insure their attendance at an
other. We see nothing wrong in the
ladies of any community preparing a
supper, or entertainment of any kind
not wrong in itself, and appropriating
the proceeds to any moral or religious
cause.
The attendance was not near as large
as it should have been or as we expect
ed, btu the affair was not thoroughly
circulated nor as much interest gotten
up as should have been. About thirty
dollars was received, which did well
considering the size of the crowd and
the nominal charge for admission and
supper.
One of the interesting and seemingly
very amusing features of the occasion
was too strongly suggestive to be par
ticipated in corsequeutly enjoyed by us.
But we will not tell on those who were
“taken in.” for one reason our own cu
riosity remained unsatisfied.

The Situation in Atlanta.
The Macon Telegraph of Sunday week
contained a cartoon representing Atlan
ta and the Constitution, On the side of
the platform stood, Grady with a pitcher
of ice water, which he was dispensing
to a crowd of prohibitionists; on the oth
er side Howell held a jug of Bourbon
which he was pouring out to the thirsty
anti I *. In the center Hemphill was
.cpresented with his hands extended
over each of the others. The Constitu
tion is bound to be on tho winning side.
Sam Small puts it as follows :
Brer Grady talks for temperance
And drops a silent tear
For Brother Howell’s principles—■
Which same they are for beer.
Brer Howell writes Brer Grady down,
Which is quite the proper caper.
And each expects to carry the town
By their mutual daily paper.
The public mind is tossed and torn,
And Atlanta’s lovely daughters
Preach on the street to all the}’ meet
The glories that are water’s.
