The meichants of Memphis have
held a meeting, in which t lie proposi
tion to tart cottonseed oil, mixed with
refined lard, was discussed. In their!
resolutions they say that the imposi
tion of the tax in question will pra,c
tically desttoy the inann-'aetuie of cot
ton seed oil and render the mills, it*
which mill-tows of dollars of the hard
earn rags of the entire country are in*
vested, worthless, throw out of em
ployment thousands of poor operators
and laborers, deprive cotton planters
of the oveans- of utilizing cotton seed
and enjoying the profits of a large part
of their toils, and drive frour the mark
ets of the world o»e of one chief pro
duce.

the cotton-seed oil industry, and there
fore the cotton planters, but it will
