BUSTED BOOMER. THRlll TRIALS AND TRIBULA TIONS. Going from One Big Scheme ro An other—Meet In gWith Poor Success AH Along the Line—Watching Reaping the Fruits, Etc. THE BOOMEIt. •‘Give rue an option on your land for two thousand dollars. The boom is going to strike like a cy clone here in a few weeks and we want the land for town lots. Yes sirl it is bound to come, the vast mineral wealth of this country can remain undeveloped no longer, i'he boom is bound to come." This was uttered by a lean, wiry, randy whiskered man, with a very self-conscious air a few days ago. He was a boomer. You know, one of those felbvvs who are always changing about from place to piace booming first one thing and then another, but who never happen to get into that delectable condition of being boomed themselves. His pocket book is as lean as job’s turkey and although he is generally possessed of a very con fident air. When he sees his most cherished hopes about a certain scheme blasted his face grow longer and longer and longer and be has such a hopeless dejected mitn that whenever he appears on the public square bis sympathiz ing riends jerk out their p>ocket handkerchiefs and wipe the scald ing tears from their eyes. The most stony-hearted old ruf fian that ever lived cannot help being moved by bis pathetic ex pression. He is a man of “great expectations” however and after a few days of grief over hurried hopes you meet him again in very exuberant spirits, with the sunny smiles chasing each other over his face, (reminding you of school hoys playing leap frog), and then ,-G’j know that he has some other ■cheme in view. After a little judicious pumping you find out that he has lately taken to speculating in mineral lands although you know that ho is doomed to he disappointed, it is your duty to flatter him, tell him that he has struck the very thing and help him to make the trade — cash down in thirty days. Keep him in this state of felicity by talking to him of the blast furn aces, coke ovens, and other manu fucturies the parties will be sure to erect on the purchasek land. After he has spent hundreds of dollars on the booming part he will fianlly make the startling dis covery that some mean, officious smeaking little scamp has stepped in between, bursted the trade and carried the boom to other parts. Thus his life is one series of disappointments and failures and every body else Jgets boomed hut himself. Atlanta had several fires Sunday ; Georgia pays a pension to 2,500 Confederate soldiers. The Standard Oil company now owns every oil vein in Ohio. Two thousand German emigrants arrived at Baltimore Tuesday. It is rumored that yellow fever h a broken out again in Florida. G -t your quarantine ready. The Chattanooga Times is boom ing Trenton for all she is worth. Gr it. We don't object. Villiam Webb, trading as James Webb «.fc Co., soap manufacturers of Baltimore, made a deed of trust Tuesday. A boiler exploded at Bessemer, Ala,, Rolling mill Tuesday and killed Dave Ballser and a man named Davis. The Czar has ordered Baron Moherenhoim, Russian ambassador at Paris, to return home during the Paris exhibition. m ■ —i A pie factory is the latest Balti more industry. Tramps will give that city the go bv in the future. The capacity of the factory is 15,- 000 pies per day. The Qtnhec house ofommoir read the third time and parsed Professor Weldon’s bill pioviding for the extradition of criminals n > f covered by extraditions. The secretary of war has ordered commanding officers at all military posts to fire a national salute of thirty-eight guns on April 80th, the centenuaryof the inauguration of Washington. Father Agostiano, the famous preacher of Rome, at the conclu sion of his Sunday sermon last caused a sensation by invoking the divine blessing upon King Hum bert an the Italian army. The Governor lias pardoned Col J, A. Robinson, of Washington county. He was convicted of em bezzling the county’s money while tax collector of that county. The postmaster at Morganville and Wildwood should request Superintendent Terrell to author ize the Cannon ball to change mail as they already have a crane. That’s the. way we got two mails a day for Trenton. Kick at head quarters if y »u wish to succeed. Prospectors are coming in oil every train Hoopla. To Miss. Lindy Black. “Dear Lindy:” The sky dotii seem a deeper blue, The stars doth brighter shine, Since i read the letter wrote by you, Wherein you promise to be mine. Though not quite the words you use, You hope that I’ve plenty of pelf, How could we possibly need it, You’re such a treasure yourself. Most mothers are partial, God bless them, And with yours most likely tis so ; The girl has won half of life’s battle, That can make good biscuit dough. Happy the home, blest is the wife, Who has her victuals hot and hue; Husband will always be in good humor, If you'll have his meals on time. You say you’re not easily riled, Your temper, gentle as falling dew, You need not have any my darling, For I’ll always have enough tor two. Of course we’ll shortly get married, Will you ple®e name an early day, Say next week or the week after, But that seems a long time away. And when the years have flown, Adown our happy stream of life, Yoij’ll say in your gentle loving tone, Dear I kie, I am glad 1 become your wife. Lovingly yours Ikie Greene.
