Representative Gordon of Chatham county has introduced in tho Legislature a bill to amend the State constitution, to the end that the first reading of bills shall be by the title only. As the proposed change would result in a great sav ing of Lime, and as two other read ings will be loft, the Ishmaelito is of the opinion that the amend ment ought t'o bo passed. The member who cannot get the points of a bill after two readings will have to vote by faith anyhow. We are disposed to look with favor on anything which tends to lessening the length of the annual ‘biennial' sections. Should Mr Gordon’s bill pass both Houses and be signed by the Governor it would have to be sub mitted to tho people for ratific&ttion at tho next general State election, j 7 ,; - c TY wic* Office i* runo preparad to d i 7n6 IfVirA. Buck From the Mines, From tho Atlanta Constitution. The members of the committee which visited tho convict camps at Dade Coal Mines and Rising Fawn Furnace have a good deal to aay of their trip, Some of this is not very complimenta-y to Chat tanooga, where the gentleman had to remain over night. They left Atlanta Thursday at 1:35 p xr,., reaching Chattanooga at about half seven that night. The city they found hot and dusty, equipped with a eopious supply of the most vigorous mosquitos. They found about 300 convicts at tho Dade mines and about 180 at Rising Fawn. Tho prettiest part of our trip,” said a committeeman “was the ride up to Lookout. That is a glorious old mountain, and the scenery—l can’t talk- about that.” The most delicate constitution ran safely use Dr, J. H. McLean’s Tar Wine Lung Balm. It is a sure remedy for coughs, loss of voice and all throat and lung troubles Sold by Cole. Lynchburg, Vu., July 22.—W. H- Davis colored, of Pitteyvania county. Va., was recently appoint, ed by Superintendent Victory a postal clerk, to run between this city and Pocahontas. He was giv en a letter to Postal Clark Dennis, Democrat, containing the request the he (Dennis), would “coach" .Davis on. the route, Dennis, who- expected to be re moved, declined to comply with the request, and h*a action in, the premises was promply reported to headquarters The refusal of Dennis to coach him was followep by a like refusal on the part of Postal Clarke Payne and I)eavers (white Republicans V both of whom declared that they would lose their pesitions before they woulu consent to “run with a niggor.” At last reports the colored ap pointee was still waiting to be in structed in the line of his duties, and the indications are that ho will coutinue to wait for sdJfne time to come. The matterjis in the hands of Superintendent Vickery and Payne and Deavers are anticipat ing their removal. 9fflr BffCWX’S IRON BITTERS Cvre»i Indlgostlon, rt», Nervounniw, and General Debility Phjd aiara recoiainetul St. AH dealers sell It.
