FROM ROGME TO CAR
ROLLTON.
Col. J. M. Mcßride has just re
ceived a letter from a very promi
nent and active railroad man, ask
ing what this town and county
would do gtowards huilding a rail
road from OCarrcliton via, of this
place jto Rome. We want every
man in the county to confer with
Col. Mcßride at once, and say what
they will Jdo. We need the road,
‘and every citizen should see to the
matter at once. We think the road
will be a suceess. If we are indiffer=
erent about the matter, we can n it
expect the reverse for others. Therc
are now.thousands of acres of land
in this county, that will be made
very valuable, that are not worth
one dollar per acre, now,
Haralson is one of the hest coun
ties in the state, and all she needs
is being developed. She has as
good farmerg, as good mechanies
and good land. She has a large
pine forest, whose lofty and gigan
tic pines Jare waving their proud
heads, and waiting for the railroad,
when their owners can make a
handsome profit from the sale of
lumber.
It the road is build in vwo years,
land, in five years, will advance 100
per cent., if not more, and you can
find ready sal'e at -such advanced
figures. Let us hear from all on this
gubject.
We reecived a copy of the We
dowee (Alx) Observer, that was:
mailed. at Bowdon, (ia., last night,
Init, we find an_article fritten
by Dr. L. J. Adderhold, of Bowdon,
Ga. Heis advocating the buiding
of a railroaqd from Cedartown to
Wedowee or some other peint n
Ala. The road, if huild, would Le
quite a benefit to Bowdon and oth
er points,
We presume the road would
pass through this place. Dr. Ad
iderhol(l golicits those who are wil
ling to assist in building the road
to confer witn him.
Bowdon and Wedowee nced a
railroad as well ag Buchanan ; and
the people should see to the mat
ter. We think if the voad from
Rome to ():}rrolltpn makes a fail
ure, the road will be build, We
need both roads.
From a paragraph on another
page of this paper it will be seen
that the name of Col, J. M. Me-
Bride, of this place, is entioned
for the genate from thiz Dist. We
think, we can safely say, if the
people want Mr. Mcßride, he will
serve them. He has gerved this
county for two terms in the house
of representativeg, and did his
work nobly. Haralson county can
not find a better man for the place.
The people should be careful in the
selection of a candidate, avd we
think they can r¢ly on Mr. Me-
Bride.
TALLAPOOSA,
Editor Baxxeg:— The past
week has made some changes in
our community.
The weather Izzy,' been vary disa
grecable for the past few days ow
ing to the continual raining.
Death has visited oyr settlement
and claimed, as victim, twp of our
friends, old Mrs. Driver, Wwho hag
been a great auffeyer for some time
with a cancer, diéd lgst week and
we hope she isin that world of joy
and happiness, where there will be
no more suffering and death. The
other was a young lady, in the
bloom of her youth, a daughter oj
Mr Taylor, who lives about twoe
miles south-west of this place. She
'married just a sow mfixths ago,
and now ghe leaves a yOlung hus
[‘n:md and parents to meet ng more
till Jesus gomes.
Rev. J. P. Houston has left us,
and moved to Oak Level, Ala. Mr.
H. had just returned from medical
college in Atlanta, and is going to
practice physic.
The work on the new hotels in
Tallapoosa is going ahead not with
standing the bad weather. The
Mcßride honse and Watson house,
will both soam be completed. Tal
lapoosa will have hotels enough to
accommodate a large number of
guests, wha degire a healthy sum
mer resort, and stores cnough to
supply the peaple with cheap and
good gqads,
Our schogpl is {flourishing—over
one hundred pupiis enrolled. The
patrons wauld do well to have the
academy repaired and put in good
order. We might have one of the
best schoals in this part of Georgia,
if our Jcitizgns sonly had a little
more encrgy. We think the day is
not far distant when Tallapoosa
will be alive to the interest of relig
ion and schools. H: AB,
Curtis, Carroll County.
