{ Epiror Baxxer — | see Cedar
town is making an cffort to get up
a public library, and T am satisfied
that it will be of great benefit to o
ny city, toywn or village, AND wuy
yoT Brepanax? 'We have a good
many voung men and boys in and
Laround town, who I think would
s9on become =0 interested that they
would not let an idle houwr pass
without going to the library and
read something that wouyld be new
and interesting to thein; besides
middled aged and old men would
no doubt spend some of thejr Sun
day evenings in looking over the
books of thelilrary. The writer has
been in towns where they have li
braries, and have seen the youug,
early hurrying to the library to fin
ish a history or stgsy that he orshe
had begun gsome time ago.
Now, Mr, Editor, one might say
“Oh, we can’t start anything of
that kind in Buchanan.” Why not?
[twill cost nothing to start ona
small scale. You may have sever
al books or magazines that [ never
reed, which you could spare to the
fibrary, taking the secrctary’s re
receipt. I'may have ahalf | doz
en that you or some one clae have
never read, which they might have
become interested in reading, and
others the came, Probably all of us
have hooks dusting on the shelves,
which would be eagerly read if put
m alibrary. I think that we might
zet a rooni Jin some store house or
one of the rooms in the court
house for a small sum_ and have it
fixed 7up to answer the purpose;
and instead of spending every Sun
day evening after preaching or
Sunday school, in sitting around
town gossiping and argueing on
frivolous topics, we can be spend
ing our time in something that will
be of some benefit to us, and ex
pericnce the satistaction that the
young are beine advanced —their
mmds elevated and enlightened,
and morally and intellectually
benefited.
Now. Mr. Editor, I hope that
you will give iis your views upon
the subject of a library in Buchan
ati. Wethave a debating elub and
why not a reading lub and libra
