We received some samples of
wheat by our friend, Mr. G, B. Jen
kins, of Felton, which we pro
nounce very fine. It was grown on
pine land without marnure, and the
heads are five inches long and very
full, having as many as soar grains
to the mesh.
We haye heard from many sour
ces that the Rev. W. W. Simpson
was a candidate for the genate from
¢his genatorial district, and have
also heard it denied. We hope Mr.
Simpson will, if he is a candidate,
come before the people hy an
nouncing himself in his couuty pa
per. Mr, Simpson ig one of qur best
citigens, and one whose morality
and pious ways cannot be ques
tioned.
We paid a flying visit to Carroll
gounty last week. We have never
goen the corn and cotton crops in
a better condition. Oats and wheat
are good, Mrs. H. R. Williams,
living near Fitts postoffice, Carroll
county, sold 100 pounds of butter
from the first of January tall the
first of May. She milked only one
cow and always had plenty for
home uge. Mrs. H. always makes
her cow pay her between 30 and 40
dollars a year, besides what she
keups for hqme use and the milk.
We had the pleasure of mesting
the Hon. J. W. Carroll when down
in Carroll county last week, Mr.

ton in our vicinity.
} Last Sunday evening, while Mr.
B. S. Tilman was gone to Sunday
[school, Mrs. Tilman and Mrs.
Lynch killed a very large gattle
snake under Mr. Tilman’s house

We had a good deal of hail to
day, but not enough to do any
damage to the grawing crops.
Our crops are looking well.
Some wheat and oats have been
harvested. They are reported bet
tor than expected.
The writer and family have been
vigiting friends and relatives in
Heard county, near Franklin. They
have had asix weeks’ (rought
down there, but had a fine rain
last Saturday. The stand of cotton
is very sorry in Heard. Wheat and
oate are good. Nearly cverybody
has a cyclone pit.

Mr. M. Hyde has been quite
ill, but is better now.
Mrs. M. Benlow has been quite
gick for some time,
