13th, with examination during the
day® and exhibition at night.
The exercises were well attended
and much interest manifested,
though the weather was very unfa
vorable. Dark: and threatening
clouds overshadowed the sgkv day
and uight, while the muttering
thunder could be heard in the dis
tance, and heavy showers of rain
would come pattering down and
pass away almost as quickly as they
came. The exereises Thursday
night consisted of speeches fron
the little boys and girls, inter
spersed with music and dialogues.
Friday night was devoted to the
specches and compositions of the
young men and young ladies, Some
dialogues, such as “Leap Yearin
in the vilage with one gentleman”
and “Aunt Betsy’s beaux,” which
were extremely funny toall e
ent ; and closed with a performance
in Culigthenies by the young ladies
and lttle girls. The scholars all
did theii part well, fwhich proved
their efficient training. The prizes
were awarded to Mr, G. W, Little,
Eddie Jackson, Miss Annie Mitch
ell and Nora Williams for declima
tion, and to Miss Lizzie A, Tisinger
for the best composition, Music
for the occagion was furnished by
Mrs. Baker and her music elass.
