- 1. Competition bhs been increas
ed, and margins reduced ; Western
lands are {resh, and ‘ransportation
is cheap. e
2 Our lands are badly worn and
wretchediy cultivated; the plant
10od in them is largely exhausted,
and small efforts are made to re
new the supplies; light culture
with heavy rains 18 moving the soil
trom the uplands to the fionoms.
and ruining the latter by obstruct
ing the water courses.
3 Idle capitol of the most ex
pensive kind such ay hirelings and
renters who do very little after
crops are laid by, or on rainy days
and during the winter months of
December, January and February ;
also horses and oxen kept in the
stalls through the winter (fi)ing lit
tle, and ofien in the summer are
fed, instead of pastured. andun
tilled lands. all taxed. yet bringiug
in nothing.
4. High rates of interest on ad
vanced capital, which has often
beeun discussed.
5 No home markets are sought
where minor products es the tarm
may be sold. At least, such mar
kets are not cultivated or develop
ed. Thousands of tonsof hay are
sold in our small towns, nat to sav
cities, while tens ol thousands of
tons of a better product go to waste
on the neighboring tarms. So with
fruits, vegetable and other pro
ducts.
6. Alack of enterprise and or
ganizing power on the farm. Any
ignorant negro may be placed in
charge ofa place or a pertion
thereof, to hutcher 1t as he pleases,
and the boy who is too stupid or
too ignorant to succeed the parent
farmer. and manage the mostim
portant interest or industry we
have in Geergia
7. (General ignorance ot the
science and art of agriculture, and
also, of the laws of trade. Even the
Itelligent farmers generallv have
had no special education or train
ing for their vocation ; atleast far
less than those of any other impor
tant business.
8. A lack ot em-operation in pro
dusing and marketing. Farmers
have prided themselves too much
in their independence, and their
180lation has rendered them pow
erless, and freqnently distrustful
of every body—even themselves.
Can these causes of failure be re
moven ? T think thev can, and ef
fective remedieg may be applied to
most of the evils eof which the far
mers complain. T will present some
of these in a future paper.—J.'W.

DID YOU KNOW IT%
Did you know catarrh s a blood disease? Well it
almost invarlably is, and frequently is a symptom
of inherited blood polson. The tendency tocatarrh
may ky dormant in the system half a man’s lifetime
and then suddenly baccme active and thedlisease
at onca severe and troublesome.
M. C. Epwarps, Lampassas Springs, Texas
writes: “ For over four years I have been dgreat
su{arer {rom a tersible form of Nasal Catarrh, I was
greatly annoyed with aconsfant roaring {n my head
and my hearing became very much impaired.
The discharge from Imy nose was profuse and 1
very offensive, and my general health
CATARRH impaired. I tried most all prominent
physicians, but they did not cure ma, |
und I used various advartised preparations withont
senefit.
I then sent to the drug store of T. E.Smith &
Bro., and parchased B. B. B, and to my utter
astonishment and satisfaction, the use of ten bot
tles has restored my general health, stopped the ‘
roaring sensation, entirely healed and cured the
nasal catarrh, and Tam proud to tecommend a Hood
remedy with such powerful curative properties. |
1 I'e business men of our town know of my case.’
W. A. PEPPRR Predonia, Ala., writes: *1 can- j

She resorted to various remedigs without effect.
