The woods wil soon be green,

Tae woodman is not sparing the
virgin forest. Heie the saw mill is
making in roads, and the farmer is
clearing a farm, and 80 it goes. We
heard a gentlemau say the other
day that he never saw as much Im
provement going on in one county
as in Haralson. »
An atterney at law, not living a
thousand miles trom Buchanan,
left a mortgage with the clerk of
the Buperior ¢ourt that a portion
of it read as follows: “I hereby
mortgage one brindle calf with an
underbit in its left twelve months.”
The hanorable clerk is anxious to
fully understand this matier.,

We need small manufacturing
enterprises. They would build up
Buchanan faster than anything
else. Let us have a sash, door and
blind factory, an axe and pick han
die factory, a broom factory and
to.on. It would mmake Buchanan a
market for all country produce and
bring many workmen to town who
would spend all their money with
us. It will not de tor a town to de
‘pend entirely on the merchantilej

Dr. W. W Fitts informs us that
‘the peopla are buying veryheavily
ot grasses. this season: Ihikig a
good sign. Just a few vears sinca
very little graszes were sown in
this county, now every firmier has
a good patch and is preparing to
make it Jarger. The soil ot Carroll
is well adopted to raising grasses
and: if our farmers would give 1t
mors attentiowu thev 2ould make it

Found Dead.
Mr. Thomas Sims, son of Rev,
T. Sime of the sixth district, was
found dead in bed 3unday ‘meorn
ing. Xlon. Gilbsrt Cole, coroner
was sent for and after empannell

ed came to his death by the hand of
Providence.iMr. Cole said that the
verdict was that M-, Sims went to
a spelling bee Saturday night,
came back with Mr. Hixon. who
parted with him about 9 o'clock, is
suppased that he went home and
went to bed, and Mr. Sims fam:ly
‘heard the degs hark. Mrs. Sims,
youngs Sins mother, did not wake
‘bim up until breakfast was ready
Sunday morning when she sent for
him and found him Jdead. It seems
that he died without a struggle.
Thomas Sims: was 39 years old
and was buried pesterdav at Beth—
el Missienary Baptist church. He
was an orderlv walking man.

MURDER AT CEDARTOWN.
- Altred Peek killed Charley Keith
by stabbing him in the stomach
at Cedartown Wednesday. The
.quarrel originated in a debating
isociety. Keith died;Thursday. Both
‘were negroes about 15 vears old.
