Rev. A. G. Upshur, made a very
pleasant visit to Cobb county last
week. He reports that he visited
Smyrna, Marietta and Kenesaw,
and saw some very fine country
and met with a heap of clever peo
ple. Cobb eounty is one of the
foremost counties in the State.

the County School Commissioner,
that the county school fund would
pay 61 cents in the dollar, but he
informs us this week that through
a mistake of the State School Com
missioner in sending hig amount,
the fund will only pay 56 cents in
the dollar, instead of 61 cents, as
reported last week, ~ :

day. He isa professor of pen
manship, and is highly recom
mended by all who know him. It
would pay Buchanan to secure the
services of Mr. Goldin in a writ
ing class.

~ After a long illness, Mr. H. L.
EMCPherson died at his home in
Villa Rica Wednesday, and was
buried at Pleasant Grove yester
}day. He was a brother-in-law of
Mr. W. A. McCalman, and well
'known in this section. Though
icompamtively young Mr. McPher
son had accumulated a handsome
fortune, and leaves his family
‘well provided for.
We had a very pleasant call the
other day from Mr. W. W. Wil
liams, one of the best farmers in
the county. Mr. Williams eculti
vates the Tomlinson bottom, be
tween here and Tallapoosa, and
this vear produced some of the
finest corn we ever beheld. Al
though Mr. Williams lives but a
short distance from Buchanan, he
seldom comes to town.
Mr. D. H. Posey, one of Haral
son’s substantial and progreasive
farmers, came in to see us the oth
er day and paid up for his paper.
Mr. P is astaunch supporter of the
‘Banner, and shows his faith by
his works, for when he went to
bid us good bye, he said when his
time was out for us to send his
paper on, for he could not do with
out the BANNER,
