ver passed through town Tuesday on
their way to Atlanta. Mr. Barker came
in and subscribed for the Banner-Mes¬
senger to he sent to his brother, Mr. M.

A prominent man and one of the best
and most clever men of this place was
heard to say the other day that he had
been somewhat halting between two opin
ions concerning this third party business,
’ uu t llow declares emphatically that he is
no third party man.
tQ^WINE OF CARDUI, a Tonic for Women.
Sam Jones said while preaching at Car
tersville the other day that the third par¬
ty may get to heaven but they would nev¬
er get to Washington. Sam didn’t have
to speak by inspiration when he sai d this
either. It was just his good common
sense that led him to say what he did.
The announcement of J. S. M. Riggers
for re-election to the office of clerk
appears in this issue of the Bannkr
Mkssengkk, Mr. Diggers has made a
good agd faithful officer and if re-elected
would continue to fill the office with
much credit to himself and the county.
We failed to call your attention to the
announcement of Mr. D. A. Pope for the
office of tax collector which appeared last
week. Mr. Rope is well qualified to fill
the office, and should he bo elected the
taxes would be collected in a creditable
manner to the county and state. Read
his card.
We call your attention to the announce¬
ment of Dr. B. F. Wright, of Polk coun¬
ty, in this week’s issue. Dr. Wright is
one of Polk county’s best farmers as well
as doctors, whom the Democrats of that
county will present to the voters of Har¬
alson and Paulding counties as a candi¬
date for a seat in the state senate from
the 38th senatorial district, it being
Polk’s time, according to the custom of
rotation, to furnish the candidate. Dr.
Wright is no stranger in Haralson r ui
ty and we guarantee to roll up a l aud
some majority for him over his opponent,
Mr. Davitte.

THli DOCTOR VI' AGAIN
i The report that Doctor Hutcheson had
declined to make the race for rcpicsenta
tive was true.
He wrote Mr. J. ,7. Coalson, chairman
of the People’s party, Wednesday after
his nomination on Friday, that he would
not make the race.
Mr. (,'oalson proceeded then to end an
other meeting. lie visited different
tion of the county, asking ^ tlio member#
of the party to meet in Buchanan Wednes
day of this week,
So Wednesday seventy odd of the third
P" rt y n,cu of t!ie «® unt y ( about tlli n
'lumber in the eoiinty) met to do their
work over, for indeed they did the same
work, as the Doctor had been
suaded again and allowed his name used
in the convention, and being the most
popular man by far in their ranks, was
again re-nominated.
On first meeting they decided to take
two ballots, letting all vote for tlieir
choice the tirst time and the second time
to confine their voting to the three lead
ing candidates. The tirst bal’ot resulted
as follows: R. B, Hutcheson, 41; W. ,J.
Walton, 10; J. J. Coalson, 14; Isaae Bcn
tlev, 7; and T.W.M. Brown, 1. Thosec
ond ballot: Hutcheson, 42; Walton, 27;
and Coalson, 10. This told the tale and
Dr. Hutcheson was again declared the
nominee.
After the nomination speeches were
made by Stratton and Coalson. Among
other things Mr. Coalson said:
“Tricks have beaten the party and the
Democrats did not do it. You have done
it yourselves. There weie tricksters here
the other day and they are here to-day.
I dare you to deny it, and I will shew
up. Tricks among you beat us two years
ago and it has done it now. We were
fighting the Democrats two years ago for
their tricks and you have beaten our par¬
ty on the thing we were fighting them
for.”
Mr. Coalson admits that the third par¬
ty is in a hopeless condition in this coun¬
ty. He was heard to say the man who
runs against Col. McBride will be badly
butchered. This is a fact, and wo are
sorry for Dr. Hutcheson, for he is an hon¬
orable man.
W. J. HEAD, 8K. DEAD.
Judge W. J. Head, Sr., who has been
confined to his room for many years with
paralysis, died at his home in this place
about 8 o’clock Sunday night and was
buried in the Buchanan cemetery Monday
evening. Mr. Head was one of the most
prominent citizens of the county. He
served the people of this county in offices
of public trust quite a number of times
and was honored highly by those who
knew him as being and honest, upright
and Christian gentleman. Peace to his
ashes.
The meeting that is being carried on at
the Baptist church this week by Revs,
Tkos. Hollis, of this place, I. P, Cheney,
of Carrollton,anil A. J. Howard,of Reids
ville, N. C., has been one of the most
toresting meetings held at this place for
years. Mr. Howard has been doing most
of the preaching, and a better preacher
hardly ever comes along. lie is a young
man comparatively and bids.fair to do
much good for the cause of Christianity.
Mr. II. A. Heptinstall, of Felton, was in
town this morning. He speaks of going
west first of next month.
Having been requested to do so a num
ber of times, we reproduce the fourth
party platform this week.
