Strike for liberty!
And today is all-fools day,
‘Got up a'dub for The Tribune.
Is it possible that Buchanan has
a “Poopin’ Tom?”
Clerk Beall made a business trip
to Waco last Monday.
Mr. E. II. Maxey entered school
at this place Monday.
Col. R. D. Jackson, of Carroll¬
ton, was here between trains last
Tuesday.
Messrs. G. M, Woodley and AY.
R, Hutcheson made a business
trip to Fullwood Springs last Mon¬
day.
There is a good deal of war talk
about town at this time, but pa¬
triotism seems to be at a very low
ebb.
Dr. W. F. Golden, our heavy¬
weight friend, was circulating
among his friends here thefhVt of
the week
The essence of slavery is get¬
ting something for nothing—m
: getting service without ienduring
: service in exchange.
Miss Lizzie Ronerts returned
• home Sunday from Carrollton,
vwhere she has been for the past
several days taking lessons in
music.
It now seems that president Mc¬
Kinley has turned the whole Cuban
question over to congress, AYo
see where he is right. It is far
hotter for congress to shoulder
such an enormous responsibility.
Mrs. Adda Albright, was, on last
Monday, adjudged insane by Or¬
dinary l-Iutchesou, and was at once
taken to the asylum at Millodge-
v 1 11 o for treatment, where it is
Toped she will soon bo restored to
(her wanted health.
Some say about four of ourtish-
Ihmigry denizens concluded to go
■out Wednesday evening and angle
•some of the finny tribe ; but late
tin the afternoon we saw them ang¬
ling back home, looking more like
it'hey had fell into thr the creek
than anything else.
Since the beautiful rains of the
present week vegetation is burst¬
ing forth with all its fragrant
.fiwetness, and the spring-birds
will soon begin to warble their
summer melody, and the frying
size rooster to strut in tho barn¬
yard, but the price of Thu Tribune
still remains at fifty cents a year,
strictly m advance.
During the argument in the
.Lawrence case in the court at Rome
last Friday, lion. Scab Wright
saw fit to call Judge Harris a
“blazing ass.” The judge fined
Air. Wright $5 which was prompt¬
ly paid. It seems that the fathor-
of-the-mule is held sacred by the
courts of the Ilill City.
Mr Bob Young experienced quite
an exciting run-away scrape Tues¬
day morning. He had the county
farm horse hitched to a wagon,
and on starting to unhitch the
animal it made a break for sweet
liberty. Tho wagon and harness
were pretty badly damaged, but
fortunately no one was hurt.
The following call has been sent

JudgeS. M. Davenport, one of
the best known men in this S»M'-
tion of Georgia, was st ricken with,
paralysis last Saturday morning,
and is still in a very precarious
condition. His legion of friends
throughout the county wish for
him a speedy and permanent r- -
covery.
Rev. T. W. Griffith filled his
regular appointment, at the Bap-
tist church here last Saturday and
Sunday. Ilis sermon Sunday v. as i
a masterly one indeed, and it car¬
ried conviction to the heart of
every one present. The .sermon
Sunday night was good, and was
listened to with eager interest by
all present.
It is a part of the duty of every
populist in the state to see to it
tiiat their neighbor is taking some
reform paper, especially the one
that is published in their immedi¬
ate county. Brother, bestir your¬
self and send in as larg - a list of
subscribers as possible within the
next month. You touch the but¬
ton and we’ll do the rest.
The noted Perdue will case,
which was appealed from the court
of ordinary some time ago, came
up in the superior court here on
Wednesday of Inst week. Tho at-
tornies for the propoundor were
Cols. AY. F, Brown, E. B. & G. D.
Griffith, J. S. Ridgdill and .Poms
Beall; and the attorneys for the
guardian ad litem were Cols. Price
and John Edwards and \A T . It.
Hutcheson. This was a holly con-
tasted case, and one that was
watched with great deal of interest
by the people of the county. Hon.
Thos. A. Hutcheson's decisson,
when tried before him, was admit¬
ting the will to record, 'file cavt-
attors appealed, and on the trial
of the appeal the jury found
against the will. Mr. Perdue will
not make a motion for a new trial,
as he has applied to the court of
ordinary fora temporary admin-
istrator to wind up said estate.
Hon. J. sso Beall was appointed by
the ordinary and will proceed at
once to wind up said estate.
Mr. Frank Brooks, a popular
brakeman on t he C. R. & S. rail-
road, whose homo was at Coclar-
town, had the misfortune to get
Ins left leg cut off by Ins train
while shifting some cars at Car¬
rollton last Thursday evening. Drs.
Hamrick, Fitts and Harris
tated the mutulated leg, but the
nervous shock and loss of blood
were so great that tho unfortunate
man never rallied, and on Friday
afternoon his spirit took its flight
to the God who gave it. The re¬
mains of the deceased wore inter¬
red, with Masonic honors, in the
cemetery at Felton, last Sunday at
about 11 o’clock, anil the large
crowd that had gathered to wit¬
ness the ceremony showed t.ie love
and-esteem the people all- over the
country'had for this noble and
kind-hearted knight of the road.
The world is better that Frank
Brooks hail lived in it, and human¬

THE TRUE XK'S X-RAY.
When wo consider that thoughts
arc but the suggestions of
mind, and that w hen the mind ha¬
le Mi poisoned by prejudice and in-
Ilamed by passion it is not
that some men during the wild
perings of a disturbed imagination
would say things and make decla¬
rations without the f ast partial'

Such must hat e been the eondition
often banner correspondent (?),
or may he ho was affect; d with one
of Circe’s potent spells when he
wrote that the populist convention
recently held in Atlanta, had 20

ter all of our defamatory reports
about democrats wo have gall
eno! gh to s >..y that Watson is
democrat. You might have went
a little fur! her bud ami said that
we had gall enough to say that
there is notjja democrat in Georgia
that had sense enough to prove
that Tom Watson was not a dem¬
ocrat. That would have bc-on true.
The said correspondent had a
great deni to say about us pops (as
he calls us), and I was in hopes
that before he dosed his lengthy
tirade of sarersm and vitupera¬
tions that a lucid interval would
have’intorvened and he would h.nve
let up on us. But not so! The
gods willed it otherwise and bud
must vent his spleen. He goes on
to say that if Tom Watson was as
smart as we say ho is he would be
“thrice times as smart as any man
ill thl universe.’' Beautifully
worded, ain’t it? Now, if this
young tryo in American politics,
who has just commenced to light
up the pages of Buchanan litera¬
ture with bright flashes of intel¬
lect, ought to stop and think that
there is as good and true men in
the oopulist party as* God’s sun
ever shined upon, it is true ho
speaks of the parly, but his asser¬
tions are not true. AVell, -consul-
ering his opportunities and envi- j
ronments, and the vivid lighten-
inf-iiko flashes of intellect thil is
continually playing 1 across his im- j
agmation, he , is likely , to say any-;
thing.
I have only, noticed a few of liis,
her er its assertions, and in dis¬
missing the matter will say that
we “pops” expect this fall to bury
said correspondent, together vsith
his party leaders and their nefari¬
ous schemes where no vesper bells
or coral hymns will chant their
dirge, but disappointed politicians
will howl their roqhiem !
