GHOST-LAND Railroad Men Swear They See ‘ Spirits" NEAR 3RRTOW LINK. Stiring Adventures Reported by Many. Erom time* inatnmemorial the subject of “ghost” has engaged ♦he attention of imaginative peo ple in all sections and all climes. The ghost in hamlei has more attracti m lor the lovers of that play than any other feature of it, unless it is the players’ scene. 9 When Hamlet told Horatio that there were more things in Heaven and earth than were ever dreamed of in his philosophy, he was speak ing through him t) the skeptically inclined of future ages. A borrowing ehost tale is told by the engineers, firemen and train hands of the Western and Atlantic railroad. One night about three weeks ago. at the trestle one-fourth of a mile sou'h of the Bartow county line, the engineer saw a blaze of fire. At once he thought the trestle was was on afire, and knowing he could not stop his engiui be fore reaching it, pulle the throttle wide open, and shot across like a streak of of greased lightning, as we sometimes hear it irreverently put. A mile further he stopped at che house of the section boss and told him of the occurrences Getting assistance, the section boss went back to investigate, while the train came lumbering on to the city. The section boss went back and found no trace of fire about the trestle at all. There were no charred embers, nor clouds of smoke nor blackened timbers. At another time near the lone soldies’s grave alongside the road track a nude figure was seen. At another time another engineer saw a form floating in air above him and hit at it with a stick and a train hand threw his lantern at it. Among the train hands and crew it is a firm belief that that part of the country is “haunted,” and a nameless dread seizes them whenever they pass that way. ’Tis passing strange—Atlanta Commercial .
