HHER GEORGIANS,
Republican Leaders Hunting
Scalps.
FIGHT ON FOR PLL'JVIS.
Want Postoffices In Macon,
Griffin and Rome.
Washington, March 11. —The
Georgia Republican leaders are
making a desperate effort to se
cure a removal of the Democrat
ic postmasters in Macon, Rome
ami Grillin. It is this which ex
plains the presence here of Wal
ter Johnson, Walter Corbett,
Joe Hamilton and Lyons ; and
while they talk of other
matters, the scalps of Hertz,
Vandiver and Bailey are the
real objects of their coming.
These cases are alike in that the
present incumbents succeeded
Democrats, getting their places
when vacancies were made by
death or resignation.
Some time ago Postmaster
G neral Gary declared that in
such cases where the resigna
tion did not give rise to suspic
ion of collusion, the incumbents
would be allowed to serve out
the ftdl four yerrs’ term for
which they are commissioned.
But under fire he gives evi
dence of weakening. The Geor
gia republicans contend that the
total lime of service of the two
democrats in each oilice should
he taken into account and that
four years of democratic service
should be counted a complete
term, whether served by one
man or several.

In this respect Hertz's chances
for letention seem better than
those of the other two, though
