In a well written letter, pub
lished in The Constitution lust
St.inlay. Colonel Candler declines
to inent Candidates Atkinson and
Berner in a j >int debate at Colum
bus, or elsewhere. He contends
that such debates would not io
any degree serve the interests of
democracy, but might prove hurt
ful by indueine personal bitterness
Colonel Candler is right in tbis,
and it w<>uld be well to dispense
with all proposed joint debates. —
Houston Home Journal.
o o o
We believe that Colonel Candler
is right in refusii.g to go into a
joint discussion with his opponents
There is no need of such a discus
sion new, and it would lead to
bitter personal feelings of which
there already exists too much for
thesifetyof all. Colon d Cindler
will gain friends and votes by h's
wise decision. —Flower Branch
Journal.
o o o
Hon. Allen I). Candler, south
Georgia’s choice for governor, is
expected to speak in Mcßae dur
ing April court week.
k lt is said 'hat Bob Berner was
a gold bug and that Atkinson en
dorsed the 0 ala platform. But
Allen 1). Candler has been in
thorrugh accord with Democratic
tenets. —Te fair Yeoman.
o o o
Hon. Allen I). Candler has
knocked the propa from under the
plains of the two gentlemen who
opposing him for the n unination
of governor of Georgia. He has
declined to meet them in joint de
bate unless there are points of
lad’.cal difference between them —
and so far these points have not
been discovered. I'he position of
Colonel Candler is right and prop
er and the people of Georgia com
mend him for hia letter published
last Sunday. He says a joint dis
cussion would only degenerate in
to mudslmging and personalities
as there is nothug for them to de
bate—theyqare all Democrats and
all stand flat footed upon the
Democratic pl atferni. —Georgia

The anti-Candler organs are
trying to raise a big rucus because
the primary is set tor June 6'h.
One of their reasons for opposing
that date L because farmers will
be .busy. II we are not mistakin
the farmers will be about through
with their crops and will take
pleasure in laying off to smash
the Atkinsomtes. The people are
opposed to long campaigns. They
are harassi d enough in a short
fight and if it i« kept up several
months will do more injury than
