TJifiT 2ND. FLOOR
Is Dedicated io the Pleasures
And Comforts
OF THE GENTLER SEX.
Here Woman Anticipates and
Gratifies Woman's Taste
At an early hour this inornin
J invaded that second floor at
Bass Bros., & Co’s., big store. I
have learned that if I am to se
cure any attention at all on this
floor, I must go early and avoid
the rush.
So at an early hour, before
the throng of lady visitors and
eager shoppers appeared, I was
gleaning data for this chapter
in the continued story I have
been writing.
In the millinery department
1 found Miss Nome Snyder and
a number of nimble fingered,
artistic young ladies very busy
rushing the wort on orders that
were taken last week and prom
ised for today, tomorrow and
Wednesday
“You see, we have to man
age our orders this way in or
der to have time to fill instant
orders,” remarked Mr. Sam
Powers.
In the millinery department,
outside the trimming rooms al
ready a few customers had gath
ered, and the sales ladies, bright,
smiling, artistic and sympathet
ic, were lending all the assist
ance of their trained ability to
the fair shoppers.
“Our trade in this depart
ment,” said Mr. Powers, “is
heavier this season than ever
before. Last week we duplicated
the orders placed the first of the
season, and the latter part of
the present week those goods,
also the substantial shipments
of the very latest fads, novelties
and styles in head wear will ar
rive.”
Mr. Powers tells me that the
sailors this season has been un
precedented. He showed me a
few specimens In all shapes and
styles, including the “Short
Back” sailor,the “Knox Shape,”
“White Panamas” and “Fancy
Crown” sailors. From the mil
linery department, with its
“dreams of headwear perfec
tion” and “bonnets that are
gems t f art.” Mr. Powers con
ducted me into the ladies’ fur
nishing department.
Here are kept worlds of cor
sets, there being from 30 to 40
styles and big lines in every
shape and make. Corsets can be
found here to fit any figure or
purse.
Mr Powers says the new 50
cent “cold wave,” or ventilated
corset is recognized by all wear
ers as a boon to womankind in
the hot summer mouths. It is a
splendid article of woman’s
dress and is moulded and shaped
the same as the $1 corset.
The underwear department
carries a big stock of knit ribbed
guaze in cotton and lisle, while
in the muslin department a
woman can get any garment
she desires and at prices cheap
er than she can buy the goods
and make them.
In the Artdepartment,ako on
that “second floor.” Mr. Powers
exhibited stacks and stacks of
dainty zephyrs and wools in ev
ery weight and color known to
the race of womankind.
Here, too, he showed me
stamped linens, silk flosses,
down pillows and many other
beautiful articles. He says the
Art department at Bass Bros.,
<fc Co’s., is the biggest, the best
kept and the most complete in
the state, and from what I saw
I am persuaded a hearty" Amen”
should come from the voice of
“Ka h.”
