The Rome Hustlei-Commer cial describes as significant a paragraph chat recently appear ed in The Times to the effect that Candler had the inside track for the gubernatorial prize. Our contemporary is, as usual, beautifully and eminently cor rect, and it will not be long be fore it will become apparent that the position of The Times signifies the downfall of the Glynn county ring and the petty politicians who wear its high collar.—Brunswick Times. And here is hoping that The Times may win a full and com plete victory for the good peo ple who have been so fearfully handicapped in their brave ai d resolute efforts in upbuilding Brunswick, the fairest sea-side city of them all. Says the Brunswick Times: “The Greenwood, (S. C.) Index is evidently edited by a man whose organ of veneration is somewhat imperfectly develop ed. This is the manner in which he flings the mantle of his sar casm over the governor o r Geor gia: ‘William is known to fame mainly as the cheapest states man unhung, and the possessor of curly hair and a remarkably unruly Georgia ambition. Now he wants to get himself a conJ spicuous position with a good votecatching argument for the hereafter.’ ” What has become of that oath bound, secret political organiza tion which named itself the Young Men’s Democratic Club? Has the inner guard fed that barrel of blackballs to the club’s goat and then sent the goat into the wildrrness. What do Demo crats think of nominations made in star chamber meetings when only 19 members voted for nom inees and by that vote under take to hold and force an alleg ed membership of 250 to stay in line . Hon, John W. Maddox, the Seventh’s popular Representa tive in congress, has shown Polk county such substantial favors that the county will undoubted ly go into the Maddox column at the primary on June 6th. — Cedartown Standard. Keep kool, gentlemen, and let your hair grow. The truth is mighty and will prevail. The mud-slinger, even though he be an expert, is of but few days and full of trouble. Truly his days are numbered and soon the places that knew him will know him no more forever. We want it distinctly understood that we are not clamoring (or a war between the United States and England on the one side and Russia, Germany, Au-tria and France on the other—but if such a contest comes the English speak ing race will come out on top. Mark that prediction. “Brigadier Bill” is determined to say something about his “mud slinging” the Georgia militia. He will have to say a good bit before he can begin to set himself right with the justly disgusted military men of Georgia. Briga dier Bill is a daiev, Spi i i proposes to decorate all the blockade runners who g*t iuto Havana. but the guns of the blook- j ading squadron will deliver some deck orations that will render the Spanish kind unnecessary.—Col umbus Ledger. Mr. McKiulej will tell yon Lhat though both are iu the future there's a difference between “To MorroF’and “tomorrow!” War rumors make the Phillip pine insurgent a hot member— and just to think 1 Here Dewey has gore and annexed about 15,0C0,- COO of him. After Georgias quota is mustered ■ in then will come C< xey and h e army. The slime slinger is abroad in the political gutter. And, strange to say, he is found enlisted un der a banner of “reform.” The gubernatorial campaign i not troubling the folks ebent here. Everybody has already de cided to vote for your Ui.cle Allen I),, and war talk has fu'l sway.— Dawson News. The Russians say it was Spanish cowardice that lost the day at Ma nilla. And yet the Spaniards surrendered i othii g. They fought like deamoi = and died like devils. With Cuba, Porto Rico and the Phillippine added, UncleS am will show up with nearly a hundred millions oi ppop'e. He only has one Brigadier Bill and one Gener al Northen, however. Somebody cal Is the Griffin camp the state cooking school. The boys are no doubt ready for a broil with Spain, and would not object to getting into a stew with Weylor himself.—Brunswick Times. The Atkinson organs have low ered their sights, and no longer claim everything. The Newnan Herald, one of the lustiest and most persistent or these speilers admits that the railroad commies sinner will not go into the con*- vention with enough votes to nominate him Berner will beat Atkinson and Candler will beat both of fii’n . Dawson News. The •'ringsters and fixers” will meet their Manila in June, ob serves the Rome Tribune This is the first admission of defeat that we have yet seen iu an Atkinson organ.—Macon News And you watch Floyd county hurl the slander back into the teeth of self styled “reformers” and, re-elect her faithful servants back to offic —and on the same d’»y roll up a big vote at the ratio of 10 to 1 for Candler. “Young Mens Democratic Cub I” An oath hound member -hip where each member has run the gauntlet of black balls! Star chamber meetings, secret pass words and dark lai.terb nomina t'ons! And y&t, under the banner ofd<inocrac, this alien brand of politics would control the poL itic.il office of the county. This under the standard of “reform” is the element that would redeem the county from honest, open, f-ar less able and experienced men of affairs. Let the intelligent voter gaze upon the two pictures: The one with the open day light for a background, while the curtain of night is drawn about the other, lien let him vote.
