Altoona, Pa., June 3—Word
reached this city late last n ; gh 1
of a riot which occurred at Sculp 1
Level, a little mining town in '
Ratnbria County, between foreign >
and American laborers. The pro- I
vocation was an insult to the flag >
by some Huns. So far as can be <
learned six Hui s were shot, but ’
none fatally. A dozan or nyjre 1
Americans and Huns were injured 1
by stones. (

AMERICANS ANGERED. | :
A dozen Americans, angered by
the outbreak, charged the foreign
ers with slicksand stones, and a
battle resulted. The citizens were ,
outnumbered and were gradually
driven back through the town,
followed by the frenz : ed for
eigners.
The cause f the riot came to the
ears of a number of veterans .They
p.ocurod rifles and revolvers and
charged the foreigners from the
rear. They sent several volleys in
to the rioters and several were
seen to fall.
The American laborers fallowed
np their advan'age by posting a 1
notice giving all f >re guers in the '
town 24 hours to leave. 1

visited late in the afternoon, Gen. ,
Miles reviewing a brigada drill of
the Thirty-second Michigan and .

Col. Leonard Wood’s volunteer (
reg ment of cavalry, better known i
aa Roosevelt’s rcugh riders. 900
all told, arrived in Tampa las’ i
night and bivouacked alone the
city Tomorrow 'he regiment will
go into camp West of the Tampa
Bay hotei, near where the Third
and Sixth regular cavalry regi
ments are located. Both Colone'
vVood and Col Roosevelt accom
panied the egiment, the former
coming in on the first section and
the latter ou the second. A little
over 800 of the men are fully
armed and equipped and ready for ,
service. This regiment has been
officially designated as the First
United States volunteer cavalry.

Picket, one of Canton’s most
prominent physicians and citizens,
while driving out with his wife to
visit a patient yesterday, had his
