Cross Agent.
Kingston Jamaica. June 20—
Sister Mary Wilberforce, an En
glish woman connected with the
Ped Cross society, a resident of
Havana for more than a year, waa
i expelled from Cuba by Gen. Blanco
I nod has arrived here on the British
cruiser Tai hot.
She says the condition of the
civil population lb Havana is aim
ply mdescrible. Many deaths are
occurring da ; ly from starvation.
She has known of cases where
cultured, refinea ladies, some be
ing Americans. shut themselves in
their houses, scorning tc aalr aid
of the Spaniards, preferring to die
i:i silence.
•‘I have here,’’ said the sister,
“a list of 120 women and children
the maj >rity of whom are Amer
icans, who actually have no food
nor means with which to procure
it. They have nothing to look for
ward to but death from hunger.
There are more than 280 European
women and children, whose names
are on my books, to whom I have
given aid occasionally, and who I
know are absolutely without
meiuis of existence.
"To show the condition of the
tonii 1 may use this incident: A
few days before I was expelled a
band of more than 200 women,
gam t and emaciated, went in pro
cession to the palace, calling on
Gen. Blanco to give tbt,m food to
appease their appetites tempor
arily.
"A small supply was handed
over. The soldiers have full rations
for two months The pa’ace has
supplies for three months. The
rainy season has nit commenced
and there is but little sickness
among the troop”. The American
relief supplies in the custom-house
transferred to Mr. Gallan, the
British Consul were confiscated by
the Spaniards.”
‘Mr. Gallan verbally agreed to
give them up, and they were taken
out cn the night of May 10 and
transferred to the militarv
authorities Many Americans are
in prison, and I know of six in
Cabanas Their ce Is are roomy and
airy, hut their food is bad and in
sufficient.' 4
Many Cubans have been arrested
recently on trumped-up charge
of •oispiracy. There is no dou’ t
that if lhe city is in danger of be
■ g tiken the Cuban prisoners
"Hl be massacrd. The Americans
however, will probably be exchang
ed. Gen. Blanco states that he will
reduce the town to ashes before he
"ill surrender.

London, Jone 80 —A dispa’ch
to the Daily Telegraph from Ma
uila via Hong Kong, says:
“Gen, Aguinaldo has captured a
deal of money, which he has sent
aboard the American warshins lor
safety. The much -vaunted Phillip-'
pine miliiia, which it was a seuous
mistake on the part of the Span
iards to arm, are now all fighting
in the rebd ranks .
“Gon. Pena, with the whole of
his army in the province of Pam
pangu, has had to capitulate to
the victorious rebels.
“The Spaniards are astounded
to find that the rebels revpact the
lives and property of their prison
ers of all ranks. It is believed
there are diesentiuns among the
rebel leaders of so serious a char
acter that a civil war is certain as
S'xod as the Spaniards and the
Americana have gone.”
The Houg Kong correspondent
of the Daily Mail, telegraphing
Sunday, says:
“A eouspiouous object in Manila
is the nucleus of an insurgent
fl ie tic consists of a vessel of on
hundred tones burden, presented
to Gen- Aguinaldo by a richnative
The vessel flies the flag of the
Philippine republic.
The nation proclamation of inde
pendence will be signed on Mon
day.
“Manila is completely surround
ed by the insurgents. The success
of the rebel force is wonderful.
“Gen. Aguinaldo has more than
surpassed ths expectations of those
who favored his return to the
Philippines. He has captured 8,000
Spanish troops, iuculding 900 re
gulars. Among ths latter are ele
ven officers of aud above the rmk
of lieutenant-colonel, including
two brigadier-generals, and he has
taken seventy-nine officers below
the rank of lieu ei.ant-colonel.
In addition, his forces have
captured five prominent priests,
heads of important parishes in
provinces recently overrun by the
insurgents. These men the insur
gents hate even more than they
hate the Spaniards, and the rebels
chuckle with joy when they point
them out in their prisons. They
have captured, too. old Cavite
church, taking twenty seven pris
oner they now hold the ettire

Chicamauga, National Park.
June 20.—Yesterday was an ex
ceptionally beautiful day at
Camp Thomas. It was signifi
cantly a day of rest among the
soldiers. All drills were
and the Sabbath was generally
observed.
• The chaplains of the various
regiments held services and the
Y. M. C. A. and evangelists
were actively at work. The ref
erence with which these services
were listened to, and the gener
al good oAler which prevailed
among the camps, were signifi
cant of a high moral tone which
pervaded the entirn army.
The efforts of Gen. Boynton
aud the Georgia authorities to
restore order at Lyttle and rid
the outskirts of gambling houses
has been productive of good re
sults. This was especially notice
able at Lyttle yesterday when
all saloons and gambling houses
were hermetically sealed and no
soldiers were allowed there du
ring the day.
There is now no complaint
from any of the regiments about
their rations. The Commissary
has ample supplies and the reg
iments do not lack for anything
that is necessary for good healthy
diet.
The officers of Walker county
Saturday night for the first time,
raided the gambling dens and
saloons doing business at Lyttle
in defiance of the law and tr
rested the keepers of the places.
A great quantity of beer wtii
poured on the ground and th
gambling paraphernalia wis
confiscated and destroyed. Judg
Henry, of Rome, opened cout
at LaFayette, the county sea,
and it is understood that he &
going to deal with the Lybe
Lawlessness very severely.
Agai 1 the rumor was reviv’d
last nieht that ten or fiften
thousand of the best equipfd
troops at the park had been r
dered to move and the first ,0
go would leave Tuesday >.
Wednesday. The railroads hre
recieved orders toprovide c:s,
and it is believed that a numsr
of regiments are to be sent to
the South from here, if ot
Tuesday, then in a very alirt
time.
