FATHER CLIFFORD,
The Beloved Priest Passes
Away.

DEATH CAME YESTERDAY
Well Known in This City and
Will be Deeply Mourned
Writing of the death of Father
Clifford, which occurred in At
lanta yesterday, the Atlanta
Journal says:
Father Michael J. Clifford,
priest of St Patrick’s Catholic
church of Augusta, Ga., died at
St. Joseph’s infirmary, this city,
at 1 o’clock this morning.
About three months ago Fa
ther Clifford suffered a partial
stroke of paralysis, and a short!
while afterwards was removed
to St. Josephs’ infirmary, where
it was thoiq ht he would recover.
About a month ago he was seiz J
ed with a second stroke, paral
yzing his whole body. Since
then hopes for his recovery has
been abandoned, and his death
looked for at any moment.
Father Clifford was probably
one of the best known and most
prominent priests in the Catho
lic dioces of the South. He came
to Georgia in 1880, and while
still bishop at Savannah, was
ordained by Archbishop Gross,
of Oregon. He was immediately
assigned to the North Georgia'
missions, including Rome and I
Dalton, where lie served for 15j
years. Owing to his increasing |
age and feeble health he was
■ transferred to Augusta, where
' he had since been.
He was a man of remarkable
i personal magnetism, numbering
among his friends thousands
who are not connectdd with his
church. He was genial, whole
souled, and no priest was more
popular among his fellow
priests.
Before entering the ministry
be was connected with some of
the leading educational institu
tions both in Europe and Amer
ica. He was a warm personal
friend of Father Schadewell of
this city, and for a long time
was connected in educational
work with him.
The body was taken to Angus
ta over the Georgia railroad at
3 o'clock this afternoon. Bishop
Becker, Father B izin and Fath
er Schadewell accompanied the
remains. Funeral services will
beheld at St. Patrick’s church,
in that city, tomorrow morning,
and the interment will take
place in the Catholic cemetery.

“TLS LOVE THAT HAKES THE
WORLD GO ROUND.”
1 .
i v
Some people think money is a great*!
power than love. Oh ! What a mistake !
See how the great money kings are con
trolled by the little boy Cupid ! See how
the great soldiers and men of power are
twisted around his little fingers !
A woman’s most precious possession is
the capacity for awakening pure and noble
love. More potent than wit or intellect is
the womanly capacity for happy wifehood
and motherhood.
A woman who is weak or diseased in the
special organism of her sex is deprived of
the power and prestige which naturally be
long to her. Such troubles are not a ne
cessity. Perfect health and strength of the
feminine organism is insured by proper
care and the aids afforded by enlightened
medical science. Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Pre
scription cures all weaknesses and diseases
of woman’s special organism.
For nearly 30 years Dr. Pierce has been
chief consulting physician to the Invalids’
Hotel and Surgical Institute, of Buffalo.
N. Y. No other physician has had a more
extensive practice or greater success in the
treatment of women's diseases. No other
sueh perfect and scientific remedy for these
ailments has ever been devised. It has re
stored health, strength and womanly power
to tens of thousands of women.
Women who would understand their own
, powers and possibilities should read Doctor
Pierce’s thousand ■ page illustrated book,
| “The People’s Common Sense Medical i
