' To the Atlanta newspapers:
Wl y is it that you du not men
tion the fact that Capt. Henry
J Stewart of Rome has raised a
’Company, enlisting Io date over
05 men inßome and Floyd coun
| ty. This too after Rome has
sent one company and several
plattoons of white immunes.
For pol ticai reasons “Brigadier
! Bill” refuse I to let Capt. Stewart
and his company of Rome boys
have Rome lieutenants. But in
spite of this, so popular is the
gallant young captain of the fa
mous Hill City Cadets, he has
enlisted a full company right
here at home. This is a fine
showing for Rome and makes
Henry Stewart at once the most
popular captain in Col. Can
dler’s new Third regiment. Capt.
Stewart and his Romans will be
heard from if the third ever gets
on a battle line.
Spain pretends not to be very
much alarmed in reference to the
proposed sending of a “flying
squadron to her shores. But she
will change her tune when the
lows and the Oregon line up off
Cadiz. A few of their “13 inch
pills” landed in her forts would
wake up the echoes all the way
to Madrid.
Minnie Cornelius, an Oneida
Indian and a direct descendant
of a long line of chiefs, is a recent

girls’ school in Fon du Lac Wis.
She is a good Latin and Greek
scholar and has compiled a
grammar of the Oneida lan
guage.
Gov Atkinson has appointed two
Superior smirf judges to lucrative
army positions. Judge Candjer as

Editor John Triplett lays
aside his palm leaf fan and
makes the observation that the
people of Thomasville “hug the
shady side of the street, as it is
quite too hpt for any other kind
of hugging.”
With the Ladrones, the Cana
res, the Philippines, Porto Rico
and Cuba all under the stars and
stripes, Spain will call the
world’s attention to the “Yankee
pig” epithet and say “I told
you so.”

The Constitution now arrives
in Rome in time to be served as
a. breakfast paper—and that’s
one of the principle reasons why
the average Roman wears a sat
i-fied smile on his intelligent
brow.
With Uncle Sam fu nishing
food and ammunition to the Cu
bans and the American arm-y
and navy fighting for Cuba, the
Cuban bushwhacker is doing
very well, thank’you.

THE EXCELLENCE OF SYRUP OF FKiS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Syrup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fig Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other par
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fig Syrup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it -jets on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of
the Company
