Freeman is a negro preacher with g wife and grown children, being a man of from 45 to 50 years of age. He has for a unmber of years been a tenant on the Widow Jones" farm, in Chulio district some ten miles from Rome. So implicit was Mrs Jones' con fidence in the preacher tenant, evan if he was a negro, she had formed the habit of sending her two little girls to the negro’shome when she was called away It is not known when the black wolf in sheep’s clothing destroyed the honor of the two little girls. The horrible fact is that they have both been ruined, the older about 14 years old is in a delicate condition, while her sister, younger than she, has also fallen. Some months ago the older girl was enticed away from home and sent to Dallas where Free man joined her. Later, relatives of the familv discovered the girl’s whereabouts and brought her home. Some weeks ago her condition become apparent and before ’Squire Rich, of Chulio, she swore the negro preacher tenant on her mother’s farm was re sponsible. The jffi< ers located the negro last Saturday at Freeman’s Fer ry about ten miles from Rome. Coroner Schlapbach* with blood hounds trailed him, but in some manner he escaped. Sixteen shot? were fired at him by the mob vho was with the officers, but >one took effect. Yesteiday Bailiff Abb Jones of Chulio, a distant relative of the girls, accompanied by Air. W. G. Donehoo, of Silver Creek, ran the black scoundrel down at Choccolocco near Anniston, Ala. The negro, knowing the desper ate nature of his case, resistel arrest, and, reports received in the city, states that in the fight which followed,Bailiff Jones was shot twice and seriously wound ed, while the negro was killed. Ihe negro is said to have stated on several occasions that he would never be taken alive. Ibis morning Messrs. M. B Eubanks, R. A. Denny, Coroner Schlapbach, Walter Coker, D. Hamilton, Jr.. Vince Sanford and \V. 0 Rich went down to Anniston to stand by the Floyd county men who had given them selvs up to the law after having k 'Htd the black despoiler of the widow Jones’ home. llieuegrc was a tenant on the J'" l * 8 ’ at the time of the ea th of the father of the little then mere babies, years ago, e bag remained there ever since —until hie terrible sins were dis c rt<d and he fled for his life. hailirt and Bill Donahoo ( f l,fcVer have been arrested, ami having been arrested should once bo liberated. They care little for truth and a great deal for temporary sensation. It is not so with THE CHICAGO RECORD. The success of THE RECORD rests upon its reliability. It prints the news—all the news—and tells the truth about it. It is the only American newspaper outside New York city that has its own exclusive dispatch boat service and its own staff correspondents and artists at«ihe front in both hemispheres. It is the best illustrated daily newspaper in the world. Its war news service is unapproachably the best Says the Urbana (111.) Daily Courier: “We read the war news in the other papers, then we turn to THE CHICAGO RECORD to see how nwb of it is true.” ' Sold by newsdealers everywhere and subscriptions received ky ad postmasters.
