guns.
Minister Sawell, Consul General
Heywood and others will deliver ,
short addresses, and the ceremonv
will close with the presentation
by President Dole of an American
flag to the Hawaiian National
Guard. The flag is the original silk
one used by the Boston battalions
in 1893, when that war-hip was <

In the evening there will be a (
grand display of fireworks, and the 1
government buildings will be illu
minated on a magnificent scale.
A banquet will be tendered to Ad
miral Miller and a ball will follow
at the opera house. The citizens
have subscribed $15,000 for the ;
days celebration and the most im- }
portant eveat in the historjf of the |
island will be celebrated with a 8
magnificence worthy of the occa
sion.
Returning stermers from the
other island all report vociferous

receptions of the an nextion news
and scenes similar to the one which

occurred in Honolulu. Preparation
were.at once male in all the towns
to officially celebrate the raising
of the star and rtripes by Admiral
' Miller in this city.
The leading men of Honolulu
met today and recommended Har
old M Sewall, United Stat’d
minister to Hawaii for governor of
the island. It had been Generally
thought that President Dole would
be their chcice.
