County Commissioners. —The board of commissioners of roads and revenue of Floyd county, has been in session all day mak ing a final settlement of the county’s business with Tax Col lector Sanford. Next Sunday.—Madam Hu mor has it that one of East Rome’s fairest little ladies and a prominent young business man of Rome, will launch their crafts on the sea of matrimony next Sunday. May their South-ward sail be a happy one, In Pol’CE Circles —The Rome officers report “business very quiet” among the denizens who dwell on the seamy side. Since the war broke out, and especially since so many of the meanest negroes have enlisted in the army, the police have not been so busy as they were in >ther day*. Baseball Thim Aftbrnoon Quite an interesting game of baseball will be played at the Expo ition park diamond this ifternoon. The game will be between the “Has Beens” and the “Is Nows” and will be for blood. A large crowd will doubt less attend and it goes without saying that everybody will have a good time —except the um pire. The Rivers.—The swolen rivers remain swolen Last night they fell only about a foot and from daylight this morning un til the noon hour they remained at the 20ft mark on tne guage, not falling an inch. Augus ta Cronical Quiet at Court House.—At the court house today the quiet ude that pervaded the atmos phere was dense. The Sheriff’s office afforded no news, while the ordinary’s and clerks offices were uo better. The tax as sessors office is closed. In the tax collector’s office Mr. Sanford was quite busily en gaged in the intricate details of a final settlement with the county commissioners. Colored Street Walkers.— The Recorder has ordered all colored street-w.ilk r«, convicted before linn and who fail to pay their lities, placed, at work on >the street with the city chain gang. Street Bost Dick Demp«\ now has five of these black soiled doves amputating grns< with a hoe and preparing turnip land along the residence, thorough fares.
