BINGINU ASSOCIATION.
Everybody at Lindale on Yes*
terday.
From far and near the people
went and came or came and
went—any way they got there—
and were at Lindale yesterday
enjoying the song services of the
annual convention of the Floyd
County Singing Association.
A whole page—aye —a whole
newspaper could easily be de
voted to the events, exercises,
and the various numbers on the
forenoon and afternoon pro
grams.
The guests were welcomed by
Bob Dougherty, in his own hap
py manner in a beautiful little
speech. This was Responded to
by Dr. Tom Gibson, in behalf of
the visitors. Everybody knows
Dr. Gibson and knows what he
can do when he tries—He tried
yesterday and everybody enjo •
ed what he had to say and were
delighted with the way he said
it.
During the day the song exer
cites were varied very often and
often they were suspends! to per
mit the brethren an opportunity
in which to orate.
Perhap* the address of the day
wa* delivered by Mr. Al»x White
Floyd’* inimitable singing conven
tion orator, though Dr. John W.
Bale and brother J, H. McCool
and other* were in theit happiest
vein* when an oportuuity wa*
offered them in which to efter
vea*.
All in all the day wa* most
pleasantly apent, th* multitude*
being feasted on sacred muaio and
banqueted on roval viand*.
Lindah did herself proud, and
there i* not a man woman or.
child who attended who is not
glad that they wer* there.
ington this forenoon and receiv
ed a warm welcome by his hun
dreds of friends here.
On every side Judge Maddax
has been heartily congratulated
today by the people ,and he
deserves to be.
The truth is Judge Maddox
succeeded in upsetting iom*
of Governor Atkinson’* pet
schemes in politixing into the
state military, and while -Judge
Maddox is very reticent,
in fact while he says absolutely
nothing it is well understood
that Brigadier Bill had set his
heart on retaining the Second
Georgia regiment in service—
Col. Oscar Brown’s regiment.
But Judge Maddox succeeded
in knocking the pet scheme of
Brigadier Bill into a cocked het
in spite of Brigadier Bills secret
trip to Washington.
The Second Georgia, the oaly
Georgia Regiment that has all
the service of a campaign, ex
cept fighting, the very thing the
iioys enlisted to do, will be
mustered out when the First
Georgia is mustered out.
The Third Georgia witl stay
