Around The Shafting.
New York, Sept. 15. —Henry
Mydal, a packer of buckwheat,
was killed in his factory, No.
207 Centre street, this morning
while adjusting a bolt in the
machinery. In attempting to
push the main belt into place he
had used his hands instead of a
level, and his hands had been
held fast, while he was slowly
wound around the shafting. His
head was crushed by contact
with the ceiling, and his body
was terribly mutilated.

Political Meeting.—On Sat
urday evening at 7 o’clock, Mr.
Robt. Dougherty, of Lindale,
and Hon. R. A. Denny of Rome,
democratic nominee for legisla
tive honors, will address the
people of Lindale on the issues
of the hour. The meeting will
be held in the brick mill hall.
Quite a number of Romans
will doubtless go oit and hear
the addresses.
Rt. Jack At Home. —Lieut.
Howard Jack, first lieutenant of
Co. H. Second Georgia ia at home
on furlough. Lieut. Jack is even
more handsome than of old, the
bronze becoming his fine features.
Lieut Jack talks most interestingly
of camp life Co. H. while’doiug
a great deal of hard work has en
joyed splendid health, the com
mand having Jost but one man by
death, Private Lank Barrett of
Dalton. Lieut. Jack thinks that
his company will be ordered to
Rome soon and given a month’s
furlough, after which time, if not
needed, the company will be mus
tered out. Unless soon mustered
out, Lieut Jack intends to resign
ard return to his business on the
road.
Mass Gilliard Injured.—
Yesterday, while Miss Ella Gil
liard and Miss Grace Scott were
driving under the trestle of the
C. R. & S.railroad in the Fourth
ward, the horse became fright
ened and dashed the buggy to
pieces, spilling the young ladies
and painfully injuring Miss Gil-
liard. Scott escaped all
injury. The buggy was badly
wrecked. Miss Gilliard is doing
very nicely todiy. The horse,
quite n gentle animal, became
frightened at a train dashing
along the trestle above him.
City Court Today. —ln city
court this forenoon the case of
Hanson vs. Marsh was conclud
ed, the jury bringing in a ver
dict for $225 for the plaintiff.

at the Armstrong hotel. Mr.
Harris resigning his position to
enter the Technological school
in Atlanta.

are expected at the Brooklyn
navy yard any time for the sail
ing of the battleships Oregon
and lowa to the Pacific. Ammu
nition is being put on board both
ships, and they will begin coal
ing by tomorrow. After this they
will be repainted the regulation
lead color. This will finish up
the work on them.
