Surprise When Told That Roose
velt Called on Platt.
New York, Oct. 3. —Dr. and
Mrs. Charles H, Parkhurst arriyi d
here to-day from London. The
doctor appeared in splendid
health.
When told that Judge Van Wyck
had been nominated by the Demo
cratic parly at Syracuse he said.
“One Van Wyck is enough, We
have got too many now.”
When asked how he liked Mr.
Rooaevelt’s nomination, he said.
“Personally, I like and admire
Roosevelt, having known him for
many years, but 1 want to know
did he go to see Platt or did Plat'
go to see him.”
On being told that Roosevelt
had visited Platt, he said:
“I did not think he would.”
“I can’t bring my mind to be
lieve.” he said, “that Roosevelt is
•o changed he would so de
mean himself as to knuckle down
to Platt in calling upon him.”
“What would you do if sali -
fied beyond doubt that he did
«.?”
“I can’t answer that no.v. I will
have to assure myself th -it Roose
velt called on Platt before I take a
stand,”
“We ought not as citizens ”
continued Dr. Parkhurst, ”io for
get that New York is in the hands
of Tammany, because Tom Platt
put it there. Anything done by
Roosevelt conciliatory to Platt
only fastens the hands of that
traitor upon his (Roosevelt’s)
throat. ”

Bottled Up!
Whether in the form of pill powdei
t>r liquid, the doctor’s prescription fol
blood diseases is always the same—
mercury or potash. These drugs bottlt
up the poison and dry it up in the
system, but they als •> dry up the marrow
in the bones at the same time.
The suppleness and elasticity of the
ioints give way to a stiffness, the rack
ing pains of rheumatism. The forn>
gradually bends, the bones ache, while
decrepitude and helplessness prema
turely take possession of the body, and
it is but a short step to a pair ol
crutches. Then comes falling ol
the hair and decay of the bones, —a con
iition truly horrible.

SHE GETS TWO BRIGADES
Seven Os The Ten Camps Will
Bo In Georgia.
Washington, Oct. 8. —As the re
sult of the oonlerencA between
Secretary Alger and Adjutant Gen.
Corbin this afternoon the slate
containing the list of places for
war camps was somewhat changed.
Instead of an even divide between
Ueorg : a and South Carolina, as
was at first contemplated, Georgia
gets seven camps and South Caro
lina three.
Atlanta haads the list. Two
brigades will, under the present
p'ans, be sent there and expected
that they will go about the Ist of
November.
It is the intention of the de
partment that all the troops now
at Camp Meade, at Lexington ai d
at Knoxville shall be moved to
these new winter camps the Ist of
November.
The other Georgia cities at which
camps are to be located are Au
gusta, Athens, Americas, Albany
Columbus and Macon.
The three South Carolina camp?
are to be Greenville, Spartanburg
and Columbia.
It was also definitely settled
that Savannah is to have the gen
eral winter hospital. There was
talk of putting one each at Sa
vannah and Charleston, but Sa
vannau was decided upon. This
seems to indicate that the greater
portion ot the troops will be movid
from tho Georgia port, but Genera
Corbin said last night that had no'
been determined. Charleston ma\
get a portion of this business-

A NARROW ESCAPE.
Thankful words written by
Mrs. Atla E. Hart, Groton S. D.
“Was taken with a bad cold
which settled on my lungs;
cough set in and finally termi
nated in Consumption. . Four
doctors gave me up, saying I
could not live but a short time.
I gave myself up to my Savior,
determined if I could not stay
with iny friends on earth, I
would meet my absent ones
above. My husband was advis
ed to get Dr. King’s New Dis
covery for Consumption,Coughs
and Colds. I gave it a trial, took
in all eight bottles. It has cured
me, and thank God I am saved
and now a well and healthy
