killing the fireman, Davis, of Car
bondale. The engineer, Reubuen

Schooner Reports Encountering I
A Dismantled Vessel At Sea.
New York, Dec, 5 —The Nova
Scotian schooner Walleda arrived ■
yesterday from Cenaives and re
poita that during the height of
the hurricane on Nov. 28th, m la
titude 36:22, longitude 72 30, she
sighted a dismantled schooner oi |
about 700 tons flying signals of I
distress.
It was nearly dark aX the time
and her crew could be seen on the |
decks gesticulating frantically for |
assistance. The Walleda bore down
on the stranger and gotclos - un
der her lee and hailed her, They
shouted that the vessel was sink
ing and asked to be taken off.
Capt. Kemp told them that hie
boats were stove and use ess. l hey
said they would come to the XV al
leda io their own boats.
Another three-masted schooner
came 'o her assistance and assum
ed h position to the windward of
•he wreck. Both of them stood
by until daylight. When morning
broke the wreck was seen t® be
deserted and the boats gone.
It is supposed that the unf >rtn
nate men had attempted to launch
their boats during the night, which
caps.zed, and all hands were lost.
