Lewis himself drew a false pen si on and en evidence of his own manufacture •"cured pensi ne for others. He appeared as a witness in numberless esses and stole a notary’s seal and forged the names of notaries to false affidavits. Fayett Carterand John Brooksher started adifliculty with Ci*y Mar shal Anderson and undertook to do him up. Carter and Anderson were in a scuffle and Brooksher undertook to help Carter out by violently throwing stones at the mirshal until with a large rock he dealt Mr. Anderson a stinging blow on the cheek. Mr Anderson then drew hi« pis tol aud fired at Brooksher. Thd ball took effect in one thigh. Mar shal Anderson gave Carter several goad blows across the head with his pistol before the difficulty was stopped. Brooksher was taken to Dr. H C.
