Charley Patterson, of Carters
ville, was here yesterday. Charley
•nee lived m Rome and is very
popular here—and be knows lote
of our people Among his remin
iscences he tells this one on Mr
Jolt Camp: “General Evans was
lastor of the First Methodist
•hurch and was conducting a b g
meeting. One night, interest be
came intensely stirred and Brother
Camp was noticed to be very rest
less He was on a front seat, right
under the drippings of the sanctu
ary.”
♦ •
“Suddenly,” said Charley, and
Mr. Camp was present,—“Sudden
ly a good sister began shouting,—
well sir, Brother Camp could stand
it no longer and he just hopped
i right up and shaking his finger a
the preacher he exclaimed : “Gen
eral Evans. I’ll bedoused, if I aint
nearer Jesus Christ tonight than I
ever was before in in my life.”
* *
*
Mr. Camp enjoyed the joke, but
I noticed that he did not deny jt.
Charley, in leaving, hoped that his
old friend would “get that nigh
again.” Mr. Camp is certainly “a
good un,”
