Late Friday afteinooi, the North Rome Electric car tried to out jump tie frog on the swit h opposite the. Hrsn.vi. or R>mf. ssnctuin imd the re eult was that about 50 men and Loys' soon gathered to tender tbsir alv e to the motor man, about how to gei | it back on the track. Finally a dozen strong men lit into the job and with their combined efforts an 1 the use of the trolley, soon had the wheels back on the trail. * * * Then it was, that one of the lifters, a stalwart negro man who was bound for North Rome and who had wot caressed a nickle since the “ Waycross war’’ hopped onto the rear platform and remarked “I’ze wid yer huny, and Ize gwin ter ride yer till I swets.” I will bet that President Jack King transported that keon to the suburb of Timbuctoo for nothing. v ♦ * I was out of the city on a flying business trip a few days ago and and a fellow passenger gave me this about Judge Joel Branham: "An At lanta paper publisned an item stat ing that a dog had bitten a little boy in West End. Another paper quoted the paragraph and asked w hich is the west ond of a boy?” to this Judge Branham promptly responded: “"Why the end the son sets on, of course.’’ * * « I was so completely frustrated yes terday when a delinquent came in and paid me 50 cents on_ the Rome Cou i an, that I stuck the muscilage brush over my ear and put the shears in my pockst. In this life it is'always the un expeeted that happens. I wasted the muscilage but licked the life nearly oaten my devil before sundown for interrupting my sanctum duties, ask ing when I was going to change the precious eoin and pay him for Janu ary’s work. « • * Mr. and Mrs E. L, Bosworth gave a very delightful 6 o’clock dinner last , Thursday, complimentary to a party of friends. The attractive home never • appeared tea better advantage and ' the occasion itself was a refreshmei t —to eay nothing of the delicious substsnt ials served in that line. *** Hon. Terrell Speed was in the L city yesterday and as usual paid t this sanctum an uproarsous visit. Terrell remained in the city last night to hear J. B. Osborn the la ’ bor agititor cavort. “That jnan, said Terrell is a terror, why he‘u a third party man teeth and toe 1 uail." And I think he is. I was in a crowd yesterday af ternoon “argyin politics, when ’ Coroner Diennon joined us. I 4 Hurah for Evans, 4 ' said be. r “Put it there" said Mr. Meyer hardt father and mother es the Rome E\a l r club extendeding his hand. They stuck. - “Cant I put yowr name on the [- Evans club?" Mr. Meyerhardt asked eagerly. “No sir, I am a Repblieau" w; ■ the prompt "reply." Ge whiz I how us Atkinson men laffed— r nine mea in group and Mr. Meyerhardt and Mr, 1 Drennou were the only Evans men in it. 5 * * * The Hustlkrs of Rome contain ' ed a little notice of a door key having been found by Officer. ■ J, L. Collier. The notice appeared Friday afternoon and Saturday morning the lady who had lost the key called at this office and recovered it, The Hubtlee qf Rome reaches the masses. %• The beautiful new Curry soda fouut is hardly set in place before Hammack, Lucas & Co announces the purchase of a still more costly and elegant institution of the same class. A WRONG IMPRESSION, WI BELIEVED IT THEN BLT TIIIXK DIFF: - RBNTLY MOW. A few weeks ago wo sta'ei through the columns of the Bunner- Messei ger that personally we favered Mr. .At kinson for governor, but thought it a foregone conclusion th: t General E - would be the next governor o Georgia, The Evans papers of the state, we 1 notice, have bei n using this as cam paign matter, leaving off that we were personally in favor of Mr. Atkinson. At the time we made the above statement it was our purpose to vote for Mr.. Atkinson, though it was our c mdid opinion, at that time, we would lose oui vote, for we believed General Evans would be the next governor of Georgia. We are happy to state at this time, however, that we think quite differently now, andthat we feel very sanguine over the election of Hen. W. Y. Atkinson, of Coweta, to the high and exalted position of governor of the state of Georgia in the next gubernatorial election. We honor General Evans for his daring deeds of bravery when the na - tions were strugling in bloody war and sought to conquer the enemy by the use of the cartridge box, but we honor Mr. Atkinson more, who sought both, in state and national elections, to wipe out the enemy by the use of the ballot b*x, which we dare say, he succeeded in doing, as no other man in the state could have done. We honor General Evans for his piety and his dovotion to the cause of Christianity which he has been so faithfully battling for the past quarter of a century, we honor Mr. Atkinson for the nobility of his man hood, having risen from the plow furrow; a poor orphan boy, to be honored by those who know him best abeve those whose opportunities ha e been as far superior to his as he is far superior to them now.—Bucl an narj Banner-Messenger. The above shows how the tables are turning. Editor Nix publish® ene of the best weekly papers in tte state and its influence in its county is al ways most telling for the cause be advocates. He is a safe, conservative citizi n and as a cool headed editor rightly interpreted the signs of the time* His exchange list of Georgia papers has convinced him that the prema uret boom was only a sentimental buble and is fast "quivering to bust," be fore the practical demand of a people made practicle by the stress of time* and need of legislature. A STARTLING PLATFORM. Editor Hustler of Rome: The following is a platform for economy: 1. Let the clerk be clerk and treasurer, salary per year SI,OOO. 2. Let the mayor be mayor and recorder, salary SSOO. 3. Reduce the policemen’s salary per mouth to $45 4. Curtail the police force two less than present number. 5. Reduee ouncilmen iu pro portion to the above scale and all other officials of the city likewise. 6. Let the contracts out to the lowest responsible bidder. 7. We favor a reduction of the street tax to $2 00. Where money can't be paid I favor three days in lieu of 15 days as it now stands. 8. We think the fire companies expenses ought to be reduced, L. Lytle. FOR ALDERMAN. I hereby announce myself a candidate for aiderman from the Fifth Ward of the city of Rome If elected I pledge myself te dis charge my duties to the best of my ability, irrespective of party favoritism or nationality, with equeal rights to all, and special favors to none. I promise you the above and ask you to vote for me. If it should be insisted that I was not born in Georgia, I will say in reply that it was not my fault. If I could have had my choice, I would have been born iu Georgia. Never theless, lam here with you as a matter of choice. Let Rome rise or tall, I am with her, All that I have is hers.
