That ia in feed a brilliant idea of the Seay men, to huddle the floater and take them on a cruise down the Coosa rivrr on board a training ship and get them in trim for the batt e of t’lo ballot. There is gnm liuuoi in the proposition, e * • The plan conceived, is to have a mo iwlijht excursion without tl e nc-or, one of these all night exeussona in which the “fl >atera’’ will swim in ‘coffin varnish" as he floats on the waves of the swift flowing Coes*. The ‘‘trainingship” a cwtterof the 'Commodore Seay sq u’’ kj tail on Monday night from this port and after an all night CJuise, return to her dock Tuesday morning with her rum soaked carge and have the en tire''ship’s company" te march • the polls an I vote, —But there was a man in theeanip who, like the parrot, talked too dopgone much—and he ‘‘busted an egg" in the scheme, • ** Why should the city tee put te such an enormous expense hauling manures and scrapinga, to the fields of the Hamilton’s in the Fourth Ward? Why those Ham ilton bottoms have by special act es the Legislative been exempted from city taxation . * * * And yet, we find the city paying for the cartage r f every spade full of this litter, even from the Fifth Ward to those distant bottoms cn be banks es the Oostanaula. * * ♦ This, too when hundreds of eart loads might and should be dump ed on the City’s vacant lots and private property on Myrtle Hill Cemetery, there to furnish nonsh ment to sbrubbt-ry, plants and flowers and help beautify our p'c tuie’que “city of the dead.” /. , Just new many cart loads could be used to advantage on the newly fiaiihed slope, whose yellow escarp ment, ehecktred with ivey springs fresh set, great the eye from the bridge and from main Street. If I understand it correctly, fertilizers had to be purchased to be in the plantiag of that ivey. • * * And what is the city getting ror her sweepings and manures? Why should she pay for the privilege of enriching the bottoms of the Hamiltons? Is it right for the body politic to be taxed to help street overseer Brown produce heavy crops of corn and cotton? Is Rome eligible to membership iu the Alliance? « * * This paper has no desire to in jure any one and will willingly publ t .a! o - ci in T'”ic:i- tion from any one, throwing light on the situation. ♦ + t ♦ I 4- I have even some phunny things latdy—and sometimes I pause and smile when I think of this idea of he East Tenneasee Road running a special train and giving a fn e ride and a barbecie to all colored voters of John Moore persuasoin who would have no more sense than to go out of town and hope to get back iu time to vote—when the engine was disabled—s y abiut next Tuesday. ♦ ** Capt. Will Eliott cam# up from Atlanta this morning. He is look ing as fine at split slick and as long as the face of a Seay man. though as cheerful and chipper as a Moore man's heart. Atlanta to be agreeing with him both physically aad financially. ♦ ♦ ♦ But he is here on serious busi n 488 viz . to help get up the death pro f- of his goed old friend, Mr. Isiac Ivins late of Fosters Mill?. Will Elliott has a. host of warm friends in the Hill City who arc pleased to learn that he is becom ing just as popular in the Harry Hill City, *** Walter Headden told me thia m >in ng that he expected to have the beautiful new fount at Curry’s in full blast on Monday, I acknowledged an invite and will drink on that day —if nerer again. And then accused Capt. L tie of running over Lis nephew in a faim tradd and of not allowing tbi negroes to drink Lytle Spring water. Here Capt.
