Rome Ga. Jan. 23 1894. Xojtor Hustler of Rome. You are hereby authorized to ■Duounce this ticket to the voters Borne, subject to their action in Hie [coming municipal election, Making their support, we pledge our Imt effort, individual and coin i»od, to the services of the people Mid to the upbuilding of our city. Respectfully, FOR MAYOR FOR ALDERMEN Jirst Ward —A. B. McArver, Second Ward—W. J Nee-1, Third Ward —Henry Stoffragan. Fourth Ward—Walter Harris, Fifth Ward -T. J. McCaffrey . Mr. Atkinson, makes the follow ing additional appointments for speaking: Baxley, Appling county, on Monday, March 5. Jesup. Wayne county, on Thurs day, March 6. The Tribune, like Moses Daily, Henry Ober and the ether colored jrators for the Seay ticket, has no tote in tomorrows election. r Even the Third party preachers arathe open enemies of Mr. At kinson. 3 bis speaks well for the tolor of his democracy . i ™ The Rome Tribune says: ‘‘How do men of inteligence hush their consciences while they deal out liquor, money or provisions for votes?" Why d ont you include i “shoes” in that question? The Tribune, that paragon of fairness and prodigy ot truthful!— M6SB, after its “Eggbustin” crusade and “headbreaker 11 campaign, now falls back upon its spotless record •nd from the turrels of tbs-ice palace of its frigid editorial col umns, undertakes to read the voter of Rome a lecture on ‘“tbe mud laomeiang.’* The Georgia State Spoitsman’e Association, at its meeting in Sa ran nah last week, passed a reso lution favoring a law which shall make all dogs whose owners pay Sakes on th<>m property, and pro vides a penalty for killing or steal ■tg such animals. •‘Remember when you vote that ♦very piece of property in the city re subject to an execution for the and inter* st of any bond that may be in default. —Rome Tribune. The Tribune seems to be alarm ed about its new type setting ma chine, its six columns of daily telegraphic pot metal and its re cord for voting for the demcratic Bominee, The Tribune has the sympathies of tke Seay ticket •jieakers each of whom, like the Tribune, has no vote. Tbe Tribune, the mouth peice •f the Seay ticket, said yesterday mudslinging that is being ione against Capt Ssay and Iris ticket is sure to react on thair eponents* and that people,* kuowa •who are tbe representative and progressive men iu this comusily, lud they are not going to be de eeived by street stories and can ards gotten out for electioneering purposes, Can The Tribune furn ish a single street story or canards? Taa. II ustler of Rome has heard Bone, and surely, if the Tribune . has by accident stumbled on “some ’ thing of interest,” it will give its 7*tient and expectant subscribers a verse or two. Thai the Constitution-Journal combination ia not all powerful is shown by the w»y one man knocked out its scheme to eaddle Pied mont park on the city. Another man is just as surely knocking out its scheme to saddle its candidate on the State. —Griffin News, Mayor Goodwin and hundreda of good citizons of Atlanta huve just had a tilt with the “Atlanta ring” and downed it. Will Max Moyerhardt of Rome rally to the defense of the “Ring” or will he desert it in the hour of its defeat? No Atlanta Ring, indeed I The Hon . Joe Terrell was in the city yesterday booming Atkinson for governor. The learned attor ney general says he has been keep ing his eyes epen and that Atkin son will sweep the state like a cy • clone. “The Evans folks are doing the talking,” he said, but when the votes are counted they won’t talk <^,uite so much. The Atkin son folks are keeping quiet and will get there with both feet.” — Macon Telegraph. —W-R l ' "i *"" ' * wh T“IS‘IHE tribune uneasy? “If city affairs ars committed to the hands of inexperienced a d incompetent men, we will be f >r tuuate if expens >b do not rm: away with the income. R uno Tribune. The above, from the 6eay ticket organ is leveled at John D. Moore who has served in the council, a man who has never made a busi ness failure. At A. B. MoArver, a most success ful young dry goods merchant, whe advertises extensively —out of the Tribune. At. W. J. Neel, a most decidedly successful young lawyer and finan cier. At Henry Stoffragan, a sober? hustling, wide-awake [young busi ness man, handling his own affairs and heavy intereits for othirs. At Judge Walter Harris, whose ability was such that both tickets put him on and only sheer desper ation drove the Seay ticket into dropping And at T, J. McCaffrey, a man who has been tried before, and who proved himswlf fully compe tent—a man who seems to have succeeded better in following his daily avoc tion than has the edi tor of the Tribune. Continuing the attacl, “Old Potty de la Merehine” says: “That is the danger to which in experience and incapacity is open in every business, especially iu the public business.” Had the Tribune, with all its backing, financial and otherwise, proven its self some kind of a suc cess, its cry of ‘ wolf,’’might alarm the natives; as it is the people of Rome know John 1) Moore, and his ticket, and know them well, and the only question now is: “how many hundreds of a majori ty shall we give them. “OLD POTTY” IS RESTLESS! “There is money to be saved in the funding of the Rome bonds by the new council, provided that body has the ability to conduct the difficult negotiations which must be gone through with before two or three hundred thousand dollars worth of bonds can be suc cessfully floated . —Sunday Tri bune. The majority of the registered voters of the city of Rome have every confidence in the ability of tho John D. Moore ticket, to ar range for the proper handling of “those bonds’ - —The Tribune should not worry its self, for time will prove that the new council, with John D, Moore as mayor .vill edit the city’s bonded indebted ness with a deal more ei se than the Tribune people are editing their own. The Tribune's diet of “machine” made pie and telegiaph pot metal seems to be most productive of “bonded” night mare« with “finan cial*’blue ribbons woven in the tails and mains. Let “Old Potty” and her sweetheart, The Argus, and their colored offspring, the Sunday News, take a day off and get the Seay weed out of their hair and tbe Seay sand out o their eyes. THE HUSTLER OF ROME, MONDAY MARCH 5, 1894. THEN AND MOW. While the Atlanta Constitu tioa’s cry of “com* down Mr. At kinson,” is being eehoed over lhe State by the little "ms—too” pa pars the folloving paragraphs,« clipped from the Constitution of a year ago will make choice raid ing matter for those who have fal len uudrr the spell *f patriotic sentiment: “Hon. W. Y. Atkinson came up from Newnan yesterday and spent the day in tbe city. He was cordi ally received ly the politicians around the hotels, and they w re busy talking politics the entire day. But Col. Atkinson seems to have his hands full now with the attention he is giving the Girl's Normal and industrial Collsga, and takes but little interest in the division of the epoi's the p c curisg of which ha had so much to advance as chairman es the State Democratic Committee. The service he rendered ie this capac ity will not soon be forgotten by the people of irad that he will again be called into service wjien the party needs a gallant chieftian, goes witheut paying.” Since th t late M Atkinson has assisted in crushing one of Atlan ta's pet schemes; a scheme which, had she worked, would have been more to Atlanta's material interest than to the Confederate veterans: viz; the heme, And of course, that monument of Georgia purity, the Coastituton, wants none of Mr. Atkinson -and the Great Evening Journal gets in the Baine boat —because the lin«s are drawn and Bs Georgia or At lanta — and Atlanta papers are for Atlanta POLITICAL RETORTS. While tbe Atlanta doctors are vac cinating people to ward off small pox, it would be a good idea sos them to examine tbe Evans boom. It will probably be found that it needs diji talic to increase heart action, as its vitality it getting low.—Co’umbus Ledger. Tbe Evans boom is not epidemic, for the simple reason that it is to> slow to be “ketchin ’ —anything. Good democrats are proof against such a disease, “Already they are casting about for their best and meat available men. Polk county will figure conspicuous ly in congressional politics, and a Cedartown man has been favorably mentioned as a possible nominee. Colonel Miller A. Wright is looked on favorably by many of his party as a good man for the lightning to strike, and it may be that he will be the man." —Cedartown Standrrd. Should Colonel Miller Wright take tbe stump, The Hustler of Rout will report his speeches and make “syndicate" articles of them. We will work our “patent” on Colonel Miller. GUBE RNATORIALLY SPEAKING The “associate editer’’ of the Americus Times Recorder takes ex ceptions to the position of the Solid South on the old soldier sentiment: We know the old Confederate soldiers better than does the “associate edi tor." We were a follower sf General Longstreet in some of his most noted battles, but think it time now to let qualifications be the standard for of fice. Sentiment has ruled, politically, long enough. The time ha« been when ab old soldier could get what he wanted in the way of an office, re gardless of quahfii ation. Sentiment ruled then, politic illy. New let us look at something more than’the “old soldier” when we want efficient of ficers.—Rochelle Solid South. In common with a large majority of the young men of the state, we de sire 'o see a live, progressive wide awake young democrat in the gov ernor’s chair, and in the person of W. Y. Atkiuson we have chosen the man for the position.—Cochran Tel egram. * NATIONAL POLITICS. The Democratic party has but one request to make of the Democratic Senators—get together. The majori ty in the Senate is too slim o ndulge in ar-v nwskev business—Newnsn He.aid. The war is over. War measures should be fostered no more.
