The question has often passed through my mind that if all the books in ths world were taken away from me, what six or even doz ‘fi would I select? I have never been able to fix upon any six yet. As fast as I w>uld write one down on my list, I would find ar >ther I thought better. The thing absorbed my mind so that at last determined to ask six ladies and six gentlemen of Rome who were known to be close stud* euts. Five ladies and three gentle men out of the dozen were kind enough to favor me with a reply, and the result is given below. At a matter of course, every one would take the Bibl* as one of th* books and those who did not in close itin their list stated that they were under the impression that I did not intend for it to be consid ered in the lot. I failed to sta‘e sue.* in my notes and this is why it does not appear in all replies. First I will give the ladies Mrs. J. A.
