At the regular meeting of th« city eouncil last Thursday night the gas company made a proposi tion to light the seventy-five posts now on the streets at $1 65 per pest per month, or fifty post, at $1.75. The first proposition amounts to $1,485, and the latter to $1,050 per year, This is a lower rate than has be fore been offered the city, and the council has the proposition under consideration, but before taking any action will try to obtain an expression from the people as to the amount they are willing to spend for lighting the streets. There io no question as to the necessity for lighting the streets, and tho only hitch is in the prjce. The council will probably make* counter proposition and it may be that before .many moons the streets will again be illuminated and the night marshal can lay < aside his “bull’s eye’’ lantern. —Cartersville Courant American.
