''°n, history of Georgia's pension
rolls for the lost eight year, tell u
Merent t.le, »od General Ev««
K.ulddowell to post himself on
th, record of Bill Albinson, f.r
eight years, before he repeats that
assertion-
When penned to the wall on the
Soldiers home. Atlanta scheme, ho
could not answer but dodged the
question all over Griffiu. But
after passing through Atlanta en
route to Athtns be boldly asserted
iu his next speech. “If I bad been
in th» house I would have voted
for the home’s acceptance.’
But that bid for the vo*e of the
old Veterans only, shows un the
stronger the Atlanta flavor of the
?ged preacher—politician and will
lose him thousands of bollots from
the ranks of the old guard.
Another assertion made in the
speech by the General, was that
for four years he had campaigned
for a war record and that was more
than Mr. Atkinson had done for
his state since the “Surrender.’’
True Mr, Atkinson was too young
to be of any service iu the great
conflict—hut it was, not hie fault
and the ‘‘wool hat boys’’ know
what’s what and are rallying to the
young stat sman from all over the
state.
HERE IN FLOYD.
Now a word about this county.
The Rome Tribune has been
claiming Floyd “Seven to one,”
for Genera! Evans against Mr. At
kinson,.and of course they must
have been counting all the Con
federate Veterans iu their col
umn,
For the past few days The Hu t
ler of Rome has, by the ass'st—
ance of a number o. the g Ilaiit vtts
been feeling the political pulse
of the Old Guard of Democracy,—
the heroes of the 60s —and have
this report to make:
Os 129 of the Confederates ap
proached, 111 of them have ex
pressed an admiration for the
young statesman from Coweta,
who by his deeds, has never miss—
*n opportunity to advance the
material interests of the old sol
-IPr And they go further than to
merely express admiration for
h ‘m, stated that they propos
® to show their appreciation, and
he >r confidence in his ability and
•**Bmanship by casting their
°ts for him in the coming pri
niary. Here are the names of the

The above were gotten up on
decidedly short notice to show t<>
the democracy of Georgia that the

“WEAR A WORRIED LOOK?
AND THE BVANB MEN OF ATHENS
WANT NO MORE DEBATES.
The following paragraph con
clude the Macon Telegraphy re
port of the Athens joint discuss
ion on last Friday :
There is no doubt but that the
friends of Mr. Atkinson are jubi
lant over the result of the debate,
while those of Gen. Evans “wear
a worried look.“
It was reported on good authori
ty that immediately after the
speaking some of the friends of
Gen. Evans who were here held a
caucus, and it was decided uuaui.
mously that no further joint de
bates should he held after the
present series, and that primaries
shoud be called at the earlist pos
sible moment.
The friends of Mr. Atkinson in
Clarke county say there is no pos
Bible doubt but that he will carry
tne county. He had fully half of
the people present at the meeting.
Besides thia he has fully 800 vote
in the mills and foundries who
were unable to be present.
Among the visitors were Mr.
James Kilpatrick of Monticello.
Mr. Ward of Machen, They both
say that Jasper is solid for Atkin
son, while they have information
that leads them to the belief that
he has a fighting chance iu Put
nam.
A well known and influental
politician from Jones who is him
self an Evans man, says that old
Junes will swing into line for the
Coweta man. He has an intimate
aquaintauce with the politics
of Twiggs and says that Twiggs is
also for Atkinson.
At significant straw is the two
votes tak--n on the Macon and
Northen tiain on the up trip.
The pell stood, Evans 21. Atkin
son 19. On the down trip after
the speaking, the poll showed
Evans 21. Atkinson 26.
