THEY DISCUSS TIE REDUCTION 01 THE LIQUOR LICENSE Th* “Rome Methodist Preachers Meeting’’ was held in th* lecture room of the First Methodist church yesterday morning. The following ministers were present : Rev’s. J. F. Pierce. J. T. Gibson, W. S. Steven*, John Bale, M. L. 1 rou-- iniin, jr., Win Murdoch, S. A. Hhi ris. S, L Pope. J A. Sewel. G W.| Duvall and Bruce Hafris. Matters of much importance were discussed by these present. A nong other things th a reduction of the liquor license by the coun ci I came up for discussion, and re sulted in the following resolutions which was unanimously adopted: Resolved: That we depreciate the action of tie retiring city c until in reducing the license on. the sale of intoxicating liquors, and making the licwr.se payable quarterly. The ciuse of ths a'arm was a bright blaze which was seen in the large dry goods store of H. B. Parks <fc Co There was no one in the store at the time excej t Mr. Henry Powers-, the book keeper. The cause of flit tire was one of the electric lights coming in sontactwith a cou* ter of lace and drapery which blazed, but the fire was exteuguiahed with little damage-a serious conflagration was narrowly averted by ‘he presence of Mr. Powers and several citizens who worn passing for had it occ ired early in the morning this large es tablishment would probably have been is ruins today . THE TENT MEETINC TO BEGIN IN A FEW WEEKS IN THE FOURTH WARD Rev. George W. Duvall, pastor o* (he Second Methodist Church South, has contracted for a new tent in which to hold revival services during the coming summer, The tent will be finished in a few w.e 8 and will be imediately erected in the Fourth Ward, near 2nd. church where the meeting will begin. Mr. Dm vail is in hopes es having everything in readi ness for the opening of the “tent meeting’’ as soon as the weather per be its. After holding several weeks in the ■lth. Ward the tent will be moved to ether parts of the city and revival services will be held. The resident pastors will assist in this se ries of meetings and no doubt much, and lasting good will be accomplish ed. SUPERIOR COURT. CHARLEY DAWSON GETS 7 YEAR F«- BURGLARY. In the Superior Court of Floyd m yesterday afternoon, Charley Dawson, col. was found guilty of ourglary. H ehad broken into the «ore of R. B. Till vbf Cave Spring. He was proven guiltv by the State, and found guilty by the Jury and sent* n :ed to sevea years oy Judge Henry. Charley was de tended by Wright. Harper A’ Wright. Riley Haney, col, implicated in he same charge was defended by Joi Mark Eubanks who secured a verdict of acquittal. This forenoon was consumed in the trial of Ed McDaniel, col, charged. Wl th assault and attempt io commit murder. The prisoner was defended by Wright, Hamil ton & Wright. Was convicted ai d got three years. Robt. Tripp, cel, charged with carrying a concealed pistvl was being tried when court teok a re cess for dinner.
