The advertising agency of N. W Ayer & Son, of Philadelphia, is unquestionably the largest and probably the best equipped of any iu the United States. It has more aud larger patrons thau any other, aud, taking oue thing with anoth er, it is questionable whether they are not entitled to the credit of securing for their patrons better service than can be counted on from any other. It should be, and doubtless is, a great sburce of pride and satisfaction to Mr. Ayer and McKinuey that they have beeen able, while remaining in Philadelphia, to build up a larger advertising business thau has ever beeu secured befoie by any adver tismg agency iu New Y'oik or else where. PAULDING FOR ATKINSON. J. R. Moon, postmaster at Dallas decided this week that he would see the democrats of Dallas and those frem the country as they came into town to see who they were for for governor. Up to yes terday evening he had 68 names ; 56 for Atkiuson and 12 for Evans. Every man he saw from the country that had auy choice was for Atkiuson. Some men who go out of nights are very much out. while others who go out of nights are “in.” DEAD SNAKES J ND MARRIAGE NOTICES. Heaven preserve us! The rattle snake season is upon us in full blast. Henry Richardson, a negro on the place where the writer learned to pick blackbenies, killed one last week that measured about 'four and a half fee'. Now, this thing has gut to stop. Last summer it took nearly one-third of our available space to i tell of the j a tl< s akes killed, a'd last winter I cou’dn’t wiite a heavy edi torial, for the marriage frotices crowded it out, Thit is to put the public on notice that no marriage ■otices will be published hereafter unless accompanied by a piece of cake big enough to make a slice around for seventeen children, and the death of a snake will not be no ticed unless he is 18 feet long and has three church bells and an iron safe for rattles, WHY WOMEN ARE NOT INSURED. Here is a singular fact that re flects rather b dly upon our wo ks and masters. Among the insur ance people th' re is constant con troversy as tn the advisability of taking risks on women's lives. Very conservative companies re fuse them in toto, while others is sue such policies under certain reservations and restrictions. For example, no company will insure a wife’s life in favor of hi r husband while ninetenths of the policies issued to men are for the benefit of their wives. When cross-ques tioned on this point au officer of a great life insurance concern evaded an answer, but finally con fessed that they feared man’s abus ing their opportunities. I simp’y state facts and leaves individua s to draw conclusions. —American Women. IIANDWRIGHTINC ON THE WALL. The following isan extract from 9, letter written by Honorable H . W. J, Ham, while in Atlanta, to his paper, the Georgia Cracker: “You might think, to read the Constitution that they do not see the haudwrightiug on the wall, but they do. for oue of the editors told a friend of mine a few days since, that it was the hardest job they had ever undertaken to evoke any enthusiasm for Gen. Evans. A good friend of mine, who works on the paper, told me that there was no doubt about it, that the thing was all coming Atkiuaon’s way now, and he believed he would be nominated. To day they print it in a promi uent place, on their editorial page, a communication from some oue advocating the bringing out of a third man, saying that the pgriple are not satisfied with either!. can take down the Gen. Ijmhey want to, but as they did n* put Atkinson up, they cann ol take him down. His friends will stand pat .’ WATCH OUT FOR HIM. One day last week Mr. Frank O’Brien of Atlanta, member of the Atlanta Evan’s club came to Gains ville, had a confidential conversa tion with the parties he was sent here to see, weut from here to Dawsonville, theuce to Dahlonega, and from thereto White county. He did not state the nature of the confidential mission save to those to whom he had been specially sent- Mr. O ( Brien will be remembered as the same plausible young citi zen who went over the State of Georgia seveial years ago in the interest of General Gordon when he was a candidate for governor and who. when the general was elected, was made solicitor of the city court of Atlanta iu acknowl edgement of his able services in that campaign. Frank O’Brien is a clever fellow and a good talker and one of the oldest rats in the barn. But we rise to remark that the people of northeast Georgia are able to manage their own affairs without any dictation from any Atlanta lawyers, and they will do it, too. We are net iu the least uneasy that Mr. O'Brien will do any damage in this neck of the wood’s but we simply mention h.'s little picnic trip so you can watch for the developments which may follow. By keeping your weather eye open you may find cut what use the Evan’s club of Atlanta has for that big campaign fund which it raised a tew days since.—Geor gia Cracker. KLOSTER OF BOLL’S EYE SHOTS.
