Will the Editor of the morning “Jonah” vote for the nominee? If he does he will break his record. At one full blow Hon W. J. Ne«l knocks out the “Hgure”-<iead of “old Patty’’ the morning “Jonan.” When will Editor Cooper pro duce the proofs and reply to Hon. W. J. Neels good natured but con viiicing argument. The Evans people are giving us the best they have got, is thet reason they furnish no argument to this side of the held. Mr. Aubrey Beardsley, the ar tisL whose fantastic drawings are just non a “tad” of Englsh book makers, is not over 20 years old. ■ The yeomanry of the “Back-eye state” continues to lynch rapists. The average Ohioian has more sense than th® editor of the South Hasting Press. If General Evans is running on anything except his war record then Max Meyerhardt, bis cham pion in Floyd, did not mention it in his Sunday effusion. The Constitution fought Colquitt and Gordon. Atkinson helped to elect them. The Constitution now fights Atkinson but the people will put him in, The Constitution is a ‘Jonah. Why should Decoration day be dragged into the Gubernatorial campaign? Shame on any man, who in the extremity of his des peration, would dare attempt it, Jim Corbett struck England last week—he struck the English man last winter. Jim is the only man we know of who makes money out of every strike ho monkey* with. The last grand jury recommend ed the purchase of a set of stand ard weights and measures. The music teachers of the city should be compelled to use none but goou measures, Max Meyerhardt slips bis “muz zle” and undertakes to drag Deck ration day, with all its sacred memories, into the heated contest of a Gubernatorial campaign. Shame! Sh. me! Thirty percent of the telegraph lines of the world belong to the United States . The Chinee has worked a corner on cloths lines, while the third party has monop olized the “calf ropes” of the re public. Do the Evans people propose to drag Decoration day, with all its hallowed memories, into the pres ent campaign? To read Max Mey erhardt's appeal to the passions of the Confederate Veterans, as pub lished in Sunday’s Tribune, it seems that that is a part of the plan of campaign. Shame on such infamoutH proceedings. Is Decoration day tn be captur ed by the Evans Ctub and turned into a vote winning machine? In t e name of the undying love we cherish for the memory ot the gal- Imt heroes who fell fighting, for the Lost Cause, we call on the men who “muzzle” and “muzzle” Max Meyerhardt, to have hir,n with draw from this campaign his Sun day moving slush. THE HUSTLER OF ROME. MONDAY APRIL 23, 1894. •‘Many new members'' to the M x Meyerhardt Evans Club but they dont publ'sh them like they use to-did. The Executive committee of the Max Meyerhaidt Evans Club, see ing the swift flow of the tide from the Generals movings have, in t ieir desperation, unmuzzled the "wet nurse" of their political or phan. The Atlanta papers are growing frantic about the alleged “Atkin son ring ’ and the cry has been taken up by the cross-roads cuc koo press. It is a pretty clever piece of work to try to d vert Dub lie attention from the Atlanta pol iticians in this way, but it dont work—Columbus Herald. The Journal posesses the chaitipi u of toe administration and rips the Constitution up the back every d y General Evans is rampant agaii st the administration but because the Journal the Constitution anil the General all belong to the same Atlanta ring they are sticking togeth r Willi© Wilde, the last husband of M fit Frank Leslie, lias married again. In an interview cabled to this county within a day or two Willie Wild says that - without wishing to reflect upon the ladies of America I must express a certain satisfaction that my present bride is not Ameican—Athens Bannjr Editor Blackburn of the Atlan ta oaily Commercial enjoys a fight and is now in his glory. Blackburn not only has grit in his gizzard but loves fair play. Being built that wav is always’red hot pours broadsides into the Journa and Constitution. We sympathize with the plucky little editor and enjoy hie broadsides—more than does his cowardly opponents. Max has slipped his “muzzle” and is now going to elect every old Confederate veteran in Georgia to be governor of the state, at the same tune. Mix seotns to believe that a young Georgian cant honor rhe memory of the gallant dead without surrendering to a “Gene ral” the chief office in gift of the people of the state- Mr. Atkinson has been making war on an Atlanta ring, but wheu his ©wn Big Atkinson ring was discovered it extended all over Georgia—Griffin Call. That just the size of it—bless your poor old misguided “sore head” eoul, and we trust you will live to see the generous adminis tration given Georgia by her nex Governor, the Hou. W. Y, Atkin son of Coweta. In writing of the late Senator Vance, of North Carolina the Phila delphia Record says: ’’There never was a Governor of North Carolina who could more delightfully eater tain the Govenorof south Carolina or for that matter, any man or woman who came within ear shot of his gen ial personality than the late Senator Vance. He could tell a story si that the telling was more than the tale, and he was as full of anecdotes as a honeyecomb is full of honey.“ Rev. Clement A- Evans said in Lome, that he “wouldtk know a ring if he were to meet it in the road;” Now he sees many of the people of the state, including many ot the Judges, Solicitors and members of the legislature are for Atkinson and he calls it a “Ring,“ After August the 2nd. Mr. Atkinson, in showing the Peachtree street man ‘ what de j teated him,*- will divert the Generals eye'from his war record long enough to pointout the little “Atlanta Ring.” And then the honest old soldier w 1' admit that the Journal and Constitu tion belonged to the deadly com bine . WILL NEEL ANSWERED IT. How does it come about that, nearly every man in the last legis- ’ lature is sti Atkinson man? As a fixer Mr. Atkinson’s iqual has never appeared in Georgia politics. WILL "DAM THE ETOWAH” LATER Phil Byrd is having things his own way up in Rome He has his mayor, the citv and county adver tising and w:ll send Atkinson del egates to the gubernatorial conven tion. Go it Phi 11 : dam the Etowah, let ’er rolU—Hales Weekly. You are wrong brother Hale abcut the Hustler of Rome hav ing things its own way —The Hustler of Rome is the people's paper, and contending for the peo ple’s rights, sinks or swims with he people In Floyd, the people ire always “in the swim” and therefore their paper never sinx*. A COWARDLY STAB It is stated that the editor of a i certain Georgia weekly in North Ga- ! favored Gen. Evans for governor pre vious to the meetmg of the superior court ©f his county. After court ad journed, the aforesaid editor became an ardent supporter of Mr. Atkinson The rumor goes furthur, and sa < that theie are some indictments | against the aTeged editor, and that the solicitor had kindly passed these cases over for the term. Tne rumor goes furthur and states that the solicitor is working for At kinson's nomination. It is furthur n - tnored that, tbv next legislature will be asked to inquire into this little e pistle,—Atlanta Journal The above is as cowardly as it is covert, but is well in keeping with the Journals plan of campaign. Were the above charges true, the miserable editor of suah a miserable sheet would still be more manly than the Journals course in the present campaign- He, the creature of circumstances yields to the iron will of a power that holds him in its deadly' coil. While flit Journals, boasting its own powers and doing homage to no •combination,“ bol lly faces every element that dares assail the admin- I isfration—except the Atlanta candi date -the man who in his old age is running on his war record and noth ing else Let the Journal name the weekly it alludes to and also name the Solici tor General, or withdraw its coward ly insinuation. If you have the state your own way, as you claim, why dont you fight fair. Major Bacon is to day the almost unanimous chaice of our people for the senate.
