KLOSTER OF Bull'S EYE SHOTS. T WAS talking to Col. John Sib; . Dr. Gilbert of the Second Baptist will begin a series of re vival meetings at his church next Sunday. 1 understand that, these meetings are to continue for two weeks. In the mean time the Sec ond Methodists, rtlso of the Fourth Ward are building a large tent, md propose to begin a series oi meetings the day the Baptist fin l»h. * * * Dr. Duvall says so far as the Fourth Ward is concerned the place is al most ‘‘cat-less at least he says that there are a good many’ cats less since Messrs Mulkey and Glover began administering cold lad, in small doses. ♦ ♦ ♦ Among rhe distinguished visit ors in the city of Rome to day. was my young friend Pryor Childers, of Cave Spring: Much pressure has bean brought to bear by the many friends of Mr. Childrers, to induce him to enter th® legislative race and he has had the matter under consideration until today, when he finally decided to quit the field. I regret very much this de cision, for Pryor Childers is a lev el headed young democrat and had he entered the field, he would have made it lively for the man who defeated him. **» Said an old farmer and veteran to day, “I say Hustler, I see that old Judge Underwood’s boy, Char ley, is in this legislative race. Now I knowed hie daddy before him and I have been a keeping an eye on Charley for some time and I have lingered it out in my own mind that Charley is a chip off of 'he old block and chock full of haru sense and backbone, and I’am going to vote for him.’’ And he will vote for a winner too. “Mark that prediction.” * ► quire John Rice was in the city today, after another b> rrel of potatoes. The Squire says this re planting business is not what its cracked up to be. The frost got all his first planting and then the J' f ‘ Ze got the balance of them so a dl\, that says he will have to ick the kalf over again. *** Ex-Mayor Al W. LETTERS FROM THE PEOPLE WHERE ARE THEY »AT?’’ 4 We 1 a e several candidates for Abe n xt Legislature all, I believe, are subject to the Democratic Primary, this is good so far as it goes, but does it go fai si mgb? Since the Democratic party has become so changeable as to b» able to adjust itself to any plat o:m We would like to hear from each candidate, what measure he prop, sis to introduce, will he try to reduce on State and County taxes if go, how will he do it? Will he try to reduce the Salaries now paid to our State and county officers, if so, how? what other reductions will he make? The time has come gentlemen, for you to show your individuality, get out of the old channel, simply being a Democrat and voting with the par ty isn't enough. We want reformers and progressive men to represent us in the next Legislature. Quoting from a card written by Mr. XV. A. Wright, April 8, lie says: “Real estate in the last annalysis is the basis of all visible credit for State and County, and therefore ought to have some favor—also, exempting fram taxation, all farm products and all farming implements. ’ “Etowah” A CARD FROM CAVE SPRING The coming Legislature will be a very important oue, it is therefore necessary to have able and talented representatives from old Floyd. Among the many important mat ters that will be brought before this particular body, will be that of elect ing a United States Senator. Os course there will be many other mat ters of interest to the entire state. And then aside from all these will be the election of Judges and Solici tors in various parts of the State, and of most importance to this circuit will be a Judge of the Superior Court. Now Mr. Editor, I just want to say as a horny handed farmer, that I want to see three just such men as David B. Hamilton, George Harris and Pry or Childers, pushed to the front. lam satisfied that these three men can earry this district overwhelmingly, and more than that, my neighbors think they ought to run. We want to see Floyd county rep resented by men of pure undefiled dyed in the wool democracy and we know these men are of that stock. I cant see, for the life of me, why we farmers cant be allowed to say who we want io run anyhow. Why is it that when a man wants to go to the legislature, and announces the fact that our best men get scared off the track, and the office seeker goes in without opposition. If we had been electing such men as Dave Hamilton, George Harris and Pryor Childers we would not have a third party in this county today. We want men who are not seeking the office and who would not join a ring or sell out any of their principles or con victions, to get back in again, but who will stand flat-footed for justice and right at all times. Now Air, Editor if you want to be pa triotic and serve old Floyd why whirl in ai d brm , these men out and we will elect them. Cave Spring . VALUABLE PRESENTS FREE.
