Mr. Park Harper returned to the city last night from Atlanta Mr. Hai per said to a Hustler of Home re porter, that the rumor afloat, con corning the removal of the film o. Carver & Harper to Atlanta this fall was based on the plans of the house • The Hustler of Rome was shown b letter from Congressm -n Mu d x t< day, that stated that Rome's i'ubln Building was ti e next on the docket and that work would certainly bt begun very soon Capt. Jim Tom Moore is now iu charge of the Water Works c< liec tions for ths city, under buperen tendant McGuire. Jim Townsend, the wife whip ner who took to the Etowah jes terday afternoon was fined $7.51 in Recorders court this morning Jim Pryor.Col,was run iu this after noon by the, police On a case of drunk booked against him Cart A.B.S.Moslev has purchased the drug store of Reese & Whitehead Capt. Mo.-l V bought the this afternoon from D-W.Curry. who bid it in at receivers sal - this forenoon. NOVEL DIVORCE GROUNDS. The San Francisco man who is euing for a divorce on the ground that his wife bleaches her hair, has our sympathy. In bis bid, he avers: Bleached - r ait finally col< rd hair is easily distinguished as such, and does not appear natural nor does it deceive any person, but it is perfectly patent and no ticeably conspicuous. It is regarded bv the majority of thinking persons as an iudica tion of a loose, dissolute and wan ton disposition, and is and commonly held to be a prac tice never affected by modest, pure and respectable women. The husband ciaimes that be is mortified and humiliated on ac count of the change iu the color of his wife’s hair. He adds: She is a brunett naturally. Her hair is of a chestnut-brown color, which, in its normal state, is mod est and becoming, and harmoniz es with the natural color o£ her skin and eyes Since ve married she has, against my wishes and protests and with intent to vex. annoy, exasperate and shame me, dyed her hair and changed its shade to a conspicuous and showy straw or canary color. As a con sequence of this artificial coloring she has been obliged to paint her face to secure an artificial com plexion in keeping with the arti fiicial color «f her hair. The com bination has given her a giddy, fast and sporty appearance. If a divorce is granted on these grounds, it will have the effect of decreasing the number of white heads among the single and in creasing them among the marriec women, This will cause the marrying and divorce mill t« run on ful time.—Commercial. But see it, for it is “the finest in Floyd.” •** A Commercial traveler, who does Rockmart and other points in that section, tells me that bur glaries and safe blowing has been so frequent in that locality of late, that the merchants have decorated their safes with placards, announc ing the fact that all money has been removed from them for the night, and politely requesting that ihe safe be not blown. « ** vapt Thompson Hiles, head o< the big Thompson Hiles Co., of R -me and Summerville, is very nopeful of the situation. I dropped iu to see him a few minutes yester lay afternoen and found him busy at bis desk in his private office. I a«ked him about trade and it was encouraging to see the pleasant look of satisfaction that played •ver his face while he gave me points on the financial outlook from a whalesale mercbantile point of view. * * * Capt. Hiles thinks that the waist of the panic is now in the business history of the country, and believes that the present sum mer will bring better times than the masses are hoping for, and that anotl e • crop will put farmer, merchant, mechanic and banker, editors and other professionals in the paths of prosperity and ont° the highway of success . ♦ ♦ * A gentleman from Livingston was telling me yesterday afternoon about three cutting scrapes that Dr. Henry Baitey got into down in that section, last Saturday, Dr. Batty was sent for to attend a little child who was suffer ing with pneumonia. It soon leaked out, however that the Doctor had his knives with him and he was called in i o amputate a hand for Sam Coney. next he used his knife on a foot of VV. W Hudson and remove a tumor. Then Mr. Robt. Roy called him in uid bad him to remove a tumor from his hand. Dr. Battey afterwards returned to the city and I venture the assertion that he has his knives in good fix and is ready for the next person who needs his service. * « * Speaking of his own business, Capt. Hiles informed me that trade was almost as heavy this season as last and said he: “when we take into consideration that all staple cotton goods are from 10 to ■ 20% cheaper than last year, why : we are selling more goods this sea son than last and the amount in - iollars is only a hundred or so less. ’This is indeed encouraging -for no one can obtain the true, , state of trade quicker, or more ac- urate than the wholesale Dry and Shoe Jobbers. *** j I learned on the streets this - morning that strong pressure is being brought to bear to draw Dr. Nixon president of the Nanni" t Evans Club into the race for the legislature. Os course the txcu tive Committee of the Rome Ev ans Club will not oe known on the surface, but you can bet your bot tom dollar that the, Doctor, who by the way is a most clever jen- , Hernan and my warm personal friend, has been promised a he vy vote from Rome- Keep your eye •n the Max Meyerhardt Evant Jlub executive committee and you ui readily see how the politicians iro making General Evans boom ‘‘spontaneous.” ♦ * ♦ It was a young minister from the ru--al district who said to me yester day : “But for General Evans there would be no state of Georgia in which a democratic party could ex ists.” Os course this was a new deal and I was dumb founded I found THE HUSTLER OF ROME. TUESDAY MAY 1 , 1894 myself actually opposing the greatest Georgian of them all—the founder of the Ccmmou wealth. From now on, Oglethrope, who was also a General, is not in it even in history.
