One day last week, Tom Massey
was looking out the window of the
jail where he was confided on a
charge of being crazy, when a well
known man of the town passed
with a fishing cane on his shoulder.
Says Tom: “Hello mister, bring
me a mess of fish heads, won’t
you?” “What do you want with
the heads?” says the disciple of
Walton.
“Well, you won’t git anything
but heads,” replied Tom, “because
whenever a fish gets one goed look
at you, he’ll jerk his blame head
off, shore! No you won’t git
thing but heads.”
The silence that folowed was
profound, as the “lone fisherman,”
with a very tired look on his face
pursued his way toward the river.

Massey was crazy or not. —Chat-

■OUR JOHN”-THE PEOPLES
CHOICE.
“The friends of Judge Maddox
urge that he should be allowed to
have the democratic nomination
without opposition. Col. Everett’s
friends urged the same thing two
years ago, but this is a free coun
try, and there is no law which
gives a man more than he can get
on his own merits. Col. Everett
was just as much entitled to con
sideration as Judge Maddox is now
and for the same reason—he re
mained in Washington and attend
ed to his business.”—Courant
American.
The Courant may voice the sen
timent of a minority of the voters
of Bartow county; It may. we say
but we doubt it: for the people of
the other counties in the Seventh
know fu.l well the platforms ©n
which Everett and Judge Maddox
wore nominated, and they know
which of the two have remained
faithful to their trust.
R. W. Everett played to the, Al
liance Democrat and the third par
ty element and won the nomi
nation by consenting to measure
up to the Sub-treasury yardstick.
He was nominated and elected and
made—a regular Clements Demo
crat, when he got into the house—
betrayed his constinents.
Judge Maddox, was elected on
the National Democratic platform
of 1892 and there is no man in
Georgia or in this union who can
successfully controvert the truth
and convince the voters of the
Seventh district that he has ever
stepped off of it for one moment.
The primary at Rome on May
26 will not only decide Floyd’s
preference for governor, but will
also name three democratic candi
dates for the legislature. Several
candidates are in the field and the
race is exciting great interest. The
announced candidates are W. C.
Bryan, Charles W. Underwood,
Moses Wright, R. T. Fouche and
J. H, Recce.—Columbus Ledger.
