Yesterday morning at about 9.30
the “Jonah” box No. 31 sounded
in an alarm and a few seconds la
t-r the fire wagons, and laddies
vere flying down Broad street.
The blaze was located in the

roof of the old Frank Ralls resi
“ dence, on First Ave., and was
j burning fiercely when the firemen
irrived
At first many of the onlookers
who had gathered, thought that
the East Tennessee Freight depo’
> would burn but by the time the
1 water was turned on the ladders
trom the big Hook & Ladder
Truck were in position and in
(ifteen minutes the fire was out.
The house was occupied by a
family of negroes, but willing
hands soon uuu the furniture re
moved and their loss will be slight.
