The Car - company's loss includes tluee targe buildings in the passenger car de- [ partment, their entire malleable iron foundry plant, with patterns’ etc., and two small dwelling houses. A large refrigerator building and office owned oy the Swift Beer Company is a total loss. The lire started in the paint shop in the car works. Thore are indications of inceuditrism. Charleston, S.C., June B.—Hardy Gill, a colored man, was taken by force from the jail at Lancaster thi e morning between 1 aud 2 o'clvc* t y a party of twenty-five men and car ried away about three miles aim lynched. A coi oner's inquest was held over his body today and the jury returned a veodict that he was shot to death by parties .unknown. Two or three days ago he without provocation, as saulted and inflicted, it is feared,mor ta! wounds on the wife of Mr James A Clark, who is now at the point ol death.. TROOPS DEFEATED.
